Robin,can I make a suggestion re the table saw. If you fit a long radius pipe fitting onto the extraction outlet the sawdust could be directed in to a bucket rather than all over the work area. A fitting such as 87781 from toolstation. you could also extend the fitting with a short piece of pipe to suit. And please stop reaching over the blade to move the cut slivers away...

I didn't quite understand at first, but watching through to the end it makes sense and how you have your story pole to sort it out and make these decisions before you start cladding the dormers. Particularly appreciate how you pointed out that starting with a double groove in the center makes more fiddling thandoing two towards the ends (before you got to the window edge pieces). And I could have used the blower on my job last week (instead I swap the hose on my battery vac to the blower port and make do, you know, suffering 😮💨).

Silly question. Why not put the reveal on the front side of the cladding? If it goes in the outside it would cover the exposed trim tongue or groove? Sure the joint would be outward facing rather than on the inside of the reveal. Must be a reason..???

He does domestic work, so don't need to abide by site rules. I'm pretty sure a saw with no guard on the top wouldn't be allowed on a site and he'd have to be wearing a hard hat at all times.

are they little packing peices youved used to get the airflow behind? what sort of gap do you allow yourself for adequate airflow? cladding looks lovely.
@ukconstructionАй бұрын
I have spaced off the batten frames that I made by 12mm, the cladding is naturally air leaky through the tongue and groove, you may also see the fly mesh at the base of the frames too, for large areas of wall cladding we do a minimum of 25mm for ventilation

Another great video Robin. I've used thermowood for the first time and it looks great, however on one side of the building which gets a lot of rain / wind hit it, dark grey blotches like mould have started to show up. Starting to think I should've put a clear coat on once the orange new colour faded a little. Have you seen this happen? Cheers

Hi Michael, there are some good simple biocides that you can spray this with that will deal with it, this one is really good amzn.to/3Yh1A3x

Thanks Robin, learning a lot here which will come in handy in the months ahead but two questions - why face nail rather than secret and what size/type of nails would you use?
@ukconstructionАй бұрын
These boards can be secret nailed but you need to have closer battens as the number of fixings is greatly reduced, I am using a 50mm stainless steel brad that is 16g, face fixing allows 2 fixings per batten
@kevindawson1750Ай бұрын
@@ukconstruction ok so you're using 16ga brads 2x batten on 600mm(?). If you went to 1x secret with the same brads what spacing would you advise - 3/400mm (?) or could you increase the nail size to compensate a bit?
@ukconstructionАй бұрын
I am using my battens at about 450mm centres, I would say that for secret nail then as you suggest 400 centres would be the maximum spacing!!

Robin, now you’ve been using the saw stop for some time, has it made you a little over confident? Any power saw can be a little scary, and that makes you a bit more aware of the blade and the dangers. I can imagine that you are now aware of the cost involved with having the saw activate, has that taken the place of being wary of injuring yourself? Anyone who has used power tools on a regular basis and is familiar with them will know that it only takes a tiny distraction for an accident to happen, sometimes over confidence will create a situation where that could happen.

@ukconstruction Sorry I meant your technique of creating a cladding that can be redirected from the starting point, you could virtually start the cladding from the centre and work either way. If I'm right in saying that.
