Your analysis struck me. Super interesting. Thank you very much. Yes, the waves of his vibrato coincide with the rhythm of the melody itself. Many times I have thought about how to explain Dimash's great vibrato and its subconscious impact on the human senses. No other artist has been able to achieve this perfection of the vibrato like Dimash. Absolutely perfect control of the dynamics of the vocal cords. His vibrato is like a soft percussion instrument that cuts the rhythm into a perfect small equal mini particles that vibes into your body and cause goosebumps. His vibrato, combined with all the other techniques he uses - vocal fry, whispering, low register, high register, head voice, falsetto, melismas, whistle tone, the combination of different music styles and all sung perfectly with his mind-boggling vibrato, this is phenomenal. The voice control and dynamics of his voice are impressive. When you listen to Dimash, you do not realize and analyze these details. You don't even understand them, but unconsciously the combination of all these little details and what you see and hear turns into magic, into a strong vortex that sucks you in and you just melt into Dimash's hands. He is a real magician.

Nicely done! One thing that many folks don't realize is that vibrato is alternating between a pitch slightly above the note and one slight below the note. Alternating with the right speed and pitch is as pleasing to our ears as singing "on pitch" even though, technically, neither note is. In opera, you typically aim to be one third above the correct pitch with emphasis and 2/3 below pitch with normal volume, alternating approximately 6 times per second. Dimash's vibrato is either naturally or trained to be in the dead center of this most pleasing spot, though he will at times vary it for vocal effect.
@CalebColesMusic3 жыл бұрын
That is a great point! You saying that is actually the first time I have heard it expressed in those terms, that is great to know - thanks for sharing that. Definitely agree that he seems to have that perfect vibrato speed and center. I think this is another reason why artifical tuning can really ruin a good performance is because wavering in pitch isn't always a bad thing, both in vibrato but also even in trailing off pitch at the start / end of a note for dramatic effect.

Bless you, Caleb. I can't remember how many accomplished vocalist reactors I've asked to do a deep-dive analysis of Dimash's vibrato. In 4 years, you're the first to do this, and I'm beyond grateful. Dimash has the most amazing vibrato I've ever heard, but I lack the technical skills to explain it, let alone understand the skill involved to vary dynamics, speed, and width in all their combinations. You've done a great job of making it understandable, with bonus demonstrations too. Thank you so much, I'll be watching this over and over again.

This Dimash video is magical. The audience and his competitors don't know this guy, or maybe have heard about him, but he's hitting them pretty cold. And what a hit in the kisser it is. He's demonstrating exceptional mastery in every blinkin' note. I've seen vocal coaches comment on this video, toss out a teaching point here or there, but nothing as in-depth as your video about Dimash's vibrato. This is valuable content! Something else I've noticed about Dimash is the way he exits big notes. I don't have words for what he's doing, but it's often not ordinary at all. He uses cry-flips and straight exits, those aren't unusual, but sometimes he chooses an almost growly exit that layers extra emotion into the notes. Am I making sense? What do you think about his exits of big notes? Are you hearing techniques that are unusual?
@CalebColesMusic3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, he definitely has a great way of ending big notes. I am guessing that flip-cry sound would come very naturally, and although he could choose to not do it, rather he just accentuates it for effect. same with some of the other way to end notes - when there is that much tension (healthy tension, but none the less tension) to get to those high notes with that power, the sudden release down create those kind of noises sometimes. The way Dimash does is it just very pleasant and intentional!

@@TheWanderer2404 Of 2021 the Dimash Digital Show version is the best :) and even though Dimash is always phenomenal: The Tokyo Jazz Festival version is by faaaaaaaaar (!) the worst performane he's ever had of that song... I watched more than 30 different performances of that song by him, and I find all amazing except for the Tokyo Jazz Festival one.. I believe he had a little cold there.. sounded a bit like he had some vocal fatigue. The Slavic Bazaar version is basically amazing but I'm not a fan of the production.. too much sound engineering.. too much sound polishing (that wouldn't even be necessary) My favorite will always be the Singer version :) and compared to the Slavic Bazaar version it has a raw live sound, it's more emotional imo and it's also vocally more impressive (he e.g. sings both the head voice and the mix with a fuller sound in the Singer version.. he goes very light in the Slavic Bazaar version in comparison.. the Singer version is also more versatile with respect to styles and has more details than the Slavic Bazaar one) But Dimash is always great :)

I know riiight...in all honesty (and not just because I love dimash)...you have to agree he has the most insane and very clear vibrato Ever🤧🤧... It's like he can summon it and it comes😩
@CalebColesMusic3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, it is really a perfect vibrato.

This is incredibly helpful, as vibrato is something I've always struggled with. My natural vibrato is very fast and light, can't be sustained, and only seems to work if I tilt my larynx. It sounds like the exercise you showed here might help, as I definitely feel like my larynx gets stuck and can't move around on a note. Coincidentally, I also tend to describe my larynx as "getting stuck" or "hitting a wall" at the top and bottom of my range. Still trying to figure out if there's a way to "break through" those walls, as I'm almost certain I have much higher and lower notes in me. Maybe this can help lead me to that.

Hi Caleb, did you watch digital concert? :)
@CalebColesMusic3 жыл бұрын
I didn't get to as I started a new job and haven't had a chance. That is also why I haven't posted a video in 2 weeks. But I hope to see it very soon!

@@CalebColesMusic Dear Caleb, you can still buy a ticket ($ 20) for the last presentation of the concert on 1/31/2021. In addition, the latest music video for the song Golden will also be presented ( modern and futuristic). Representatives of the tixr.com platform said that ticket sales broke all records for a foreign artist and the concert was watched in over 100 countries. We would be very curious about your professional opinion on various aspects of this concert . Pozdrowienia z dalekiej Polski 😘

Hey Caleb, I love singing but about ten years ago my voice got "stuck" and I'm unable to switch to head voice or falsetto except for an ugly squeak. I can reach high C# on good days (mostly evenings) in chest voice but I have to belt it out. I'd love some quick tips please :)

Please react on Sheryn Regis' Come in out of the rain. She is known as the Crystal Voice of Asia. In 2016, Sheryn Regis was diagnosed with stage 2 thyroid cancer. But despite of her operation, she still can sing and belt high notes effortlessly. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYqYdH-Yl5yed5I If you find her voice interesting, she has her version of "She's gone" by Steelheart. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enXChXqEhdmLpZI Cheers!

Hey Caleb Did you always have a big range of head voice (up to C6 or D6) or were you able to increase it by time and training?
@CalebColesMusic3 жыл бұрын
Time and training for me. I original couldn't nearly go that high, so me F or F#5 was my highest at one point, so I have increased almost an octave. So keep training because a lot is possible!

@@CalebColesMusicI am on f#5 rn what training did you do? Anything past that is just very breathy and light for me .
