Strange, but the straight tone is more compelling for me. Straight tone makes you listen intently, whereas vibrato, unless it's very emotionally natural, makes me feel like I'm listening to something being pretty-fied rather than gripping me intently.

Can you develop vibrato intentionally

Vibrato happens through a combination of airflow through the vocal cords and a relaxed larynx. It cannot be forced or taught but if and when the time is right, it will come naturally. Don't try and trill though because that is a movement of two notes, whereas vibrato is (as indicated in the word itself) a vibration, of ONE note.

@@rihannaimvu8834 it can really only be taught by focusing on breath support and proper technique. When the technique is correct, vibrato comes. There’s no way to force it and have it sound decent.
