For virtual desktop, do I need to get it on like the base headset or do I go through the pc meta software and buy it from there?

Sorry for the late response hope you figured it out on your own. You have to purchase virtual desktop on the headset store. Not the PC app.

I just learned about steam links today. It should be the same but I have not tried it yet.

Does this work with Pico 4 too? I can't find the setting. Does it work diferently there?

I do not own a Pico headset so I can not give you a definitive answer but perhaps make sure your app is updated. But as I said I have no clue.

Unfortunately this seems to only be a feature through steam link and virtual desktop. I know the meta link app on PC had hand tracking as a beta feature but it is no longer an option in settings.

Unfortunately no. I have been searching around and it would appear there is no way when playing wired as of currently.
