Thanks for the video. Also, your name tag on your lab coat is great. Heh

The amount of RO water you need to use depends on how much nitrite is in the water. The more nitrite in the water the more you need to dilute with RO water. Best to start with a 50:50 dilution. Also you only need to dilute the test sample which is usually 10 ml or less so you don't need much RO water.

Interesting video! What is the actual Nitrite level in your test sample? At what level of Nitrite do the hobbyist test kits give the false zero reading? Thanks!

The concentration was 30 mg/L nitrite-nitrogen. The value were kits begin to give false reading is generally anything above the maximum value on their scale. But the scale is different for each kit.

We may be jumping the gun here but we bought your one and only off Amazon and your ammonia. We are still at 2ppm ammonia and 0 for everything else. We poured the entire bottle into a 5 gallon aquarium. There is no carbon in the filtration system. Trying to stick with it but I am curious if I should be concerned. Thanks for any and all help.

What is the ratio of aquarium water to ro water? I'd like to do this test but I don't have that much ro water.

why do i need to dilute the water from the tank with RO water to get a better reading. When I tested the water directly from the tank, it show zero and when I test with RO water mix with tank water, I get a reading for nitrite and nitrate but none with straight tank water. Why are the test made like that and should I be using RO to measure my reading every time.

Thx for the quick response. So on an ion scale, if my math is right, that would equate to around 98.5 ppm, right?

I use 5ml aquarium water to 1500ml distilled water, and all API test-except phosphate- reading ZERO, whats wrong?
@DrTimsAquatics11 жыл бұрын
that is way too big a dilution. Try 5 ml aquarium water and 15 ml DI water

I've been using the API freshwater master kit and Seachem Stability and even with a rotting shrimp in my tank for nearly two weeks my ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate always read zero. Today I used 5 ml tank water with 15 ml DI on the tests and the ammonia read .25ppm, but zero nitrite and nitrate. Is the 5 ml tank water/15 ml DI the correct ratio for all three tests?
