I have the clear white slim breaking out in my reef tanks . It was never an issue until we had carpet layed in out basement and had walls painted. The tanks are in there own room etc but something in the air must be causing it . Is refresh or waste away my best bet? I used refresh and i did see my water is green two days later? If thats a sign of something?

Dr. Tim, Since waste away eats up nitrates and phosphate, would it cause SPS and LPS to starve? My phosphate is around 0.03 ppm and nitrates between 0.75 and 1.00 ppm. I still see brownish algae in my tank even with low nutrients. I also have lots of detritus between rocks I would love to get rid of, therefore thinking if waste away will help getting rid of detritus and brownish algae on my rocks. Thanks,

Are you sure you are not seeing/getting dinoflagellates? Your levels are too low, in our opinion, already. You need to get the nitrate above 5 ppm

Are the First defense "marine" & "freshwater" essentially the same product marketed to each respective side of the hobby? Or are they different enough that the marine can't be used in freshwater & vice versa? Made a mistake with an order & can't get a refund on sale items, so I either need to toss the version I got (which seems a shame but I don't know anyone with a saltwater aquarium) or hopefully use it to help some stressed wild betta recover from a heat resistant stain of ICH.

You can use it. There are differences but not enough to warrant tossing it and there will be no harm

@@DrTimsAquatics Thank you- that is a relief, I'll use it for them then. Is it OK to use it while a UV steriliser is being used? (it's a slower flow/high contact UV set up).

I am currently battling white slime type substance all over my rocks, I have read that waste away works against this, I note that the skimmer should be turned off, is it possible to remove the collection cup and leave the skimmer on to help keep the oxygen levels up? Thanks

Yes, but we recommend utilizing other products in our line such as Eco-Balance to help maintain a healthy biome.

Is it correct that I can’t use refresh if I have shrimps or snails in my reef tank?

It depends on many factors (most people overdose, is there substrate in the tank, etc) and there is a chance they will be harmed which is why we put the warning on the label.

I have 130L tropical aquarium, if you have a filter crash or you notice after a big water and filter change your reading are out, like my nitrate went sky hi well bad and amonia was out , what Dr Tims shout i be topping up on a regular basis with, can i just add a small bottle 60ml Dr Tims One & Only Freshwater Nitrifying Bacteria Filter Start DrTim's, twice a year? please advise Thanks in advance

Always good to add some One and Only to re-establish the nitrifying bacteria. Also good to add a little Waste_Way to get of organic and start consuming the nitrate and phosphate. But start slow with the Waste-Away -- 1/4 dose to start max.

NOTE - in regards to the ammonium chloride drops - use whatever the label on your bottle says either 1 drop per gallon (old version) or 4 drops per gallon new version.

Dr Tim, I started my tank 2 months ago, used your product to cycle and worked Great! Im going through some ugly brown/red ( hard to tell the exact color) algae problem. Not sure if its Diatom or other. If its Diatom should I use your waste away product for this or just let it do its thing? Its getting pretty bad . Thanks

Use the Waste-Away. What are your nitrate and phosphate values?

@@DrTimsAquatics using Salifer test kits my nitrate seems to be 5-10 and reading 0 on phosphate but not sure how acurate that is. Was thinking if its Diatom then maybe silicates from the marcos reef rock ( dry rock) possibly. Used live sand ( Carib sea Ocean Direct)

If you have a saltwater tank you should top up with RODI water. If you have a freshwater tank you should probably us 50:50 RODI and dechlorinated tap water. You can use One & Only with Live Sand.
