I recently bought a few Holbeins to try a similar comparison, and honestly I was a little underwhelmed after all the craze I’ve heard about them. I prefer my Prismacolors and Luminance!

I’ve not tried them, but don’t have the desire to spend that much money on pencils. I do love the pastel colors but feel as though I can create those colors from putting other sets together. There is also a pastel set that is more budget friendly available on Amazon, although I’ve not tried those either. And yes...Prismacolor and Luminance are my favorites!

I only have the 72 prismacolor pencils. I bought them when they were on sale for 35 dollars. The prismacolor looks best.

I would love to see some more on shadows and highlights and how you know when and where to use them. Or the best book I could buy that explains this like teaching children! Lol. I don’t know why but this stuff is like learning a different language.

In your opinion is best to use Luminance or Polychromos white colored pencil with prismacolor? Because is impossibile to buy only one white pencil of Prismacolor and this is a very big problem when it's consumed. Thank you for your time.

Could you please list the colouring books you found work well with Pablo pencils? You have a video where you said that the paper in Jade Summer books works better than the paper in Johanna Basford books, and I wonder if you'd found other books since then where you can colour with Pablos without needing to press hard or otherwise generate stress. Thank you! :-)

The Pablo Pencils to work well in the Joanna Basford books as well. Although, they did work wonderfully in the Amazon box on the Amazon paper which was really surprising. I’ve not tried them and other books yet.

Are the Luminance pencils oil based or wax based? TIA

Ive read so many mixed opinions on this and I believe they’re mostly wax based but have a combination of wax and oil. The Art Gear Guide did a review on these a few years ago and I believe he received his information directly from Caran d’Ache. They definitely go down on the paper like they’re a wax-based pencil, but they appear to be more of a solid color without the wax-bloom like the Polychromos.
