Hi Rachel, I'm a bit late to this tutorial but found it very helpful. I have recently bought an iPad to store my growing collection of music and have been putting them in 'Files' on the iPad rather than iCloud as I don't have mobile data on it (plus the poor signal issue). I then bought a Lekato wireless page turner for those sheets that have more than 1 page and found it doesn't work on pdfs in 'Files'. I was just about to pay out for a software app when I found this tutorial and now I can put the sheets into Books and the page turner now works. Many thanks!

There are a number of iOS apps perfect for organizing your sheet music. This is great because it's free and uses software that comes on every iPad. You can also save the PDFs to files on your iPad and use it like a filing system with nestled folders (also free). Something else that works very well is an app like Notability or GoodNotes. You can embed images and such, and add notes, etc. And one that I'm the most fond of... Scrivener. It's sold as a writing app, but it's also an insanely powerful organization tool. You can embed damn near anything, as well as have links to specific pages online, etc. And you can synch using Dropbox across multiple devices. It's a paid app though, so it's all about what folks are willing to pay for convenience and features. As always, great video. Very informative and great tips for folks who are less comfortable on tablets.

Great educational video. I have been using the iPad for chord charts since the first iPad in 2011. I bought it mostly for chord charts. I don't want another device to receive email. Too many to keep up with so I don't have it set up on my iPad. I normally receive a hard copy of the song we are going to do and I then scan it to my PC. I use Dropbox to move it over from my PC to the iPad. I use a free iPad app to organize my PDF chord charts. It is called File Manager. It will connect with Dropbox and different folders can be set up within. I have one folder called "current set" which I move all the songs we will be doing for the session. This app is very simple and basic. No frills. It has no means to write on the sheet. I will look at the one you suggested. Sometimes I need to make notes like you for which order we will be doing the verses, chorus and bridge, etc

Sounds like you have been very organised over the years! I wish I had swapped much earlier. Yes, have a look for BOOKS on your iPad, it may already be installed but if not, it will be free in the app store. It's as easy to organise your music in Books as it is in Files and the option to be able to write on it is a wonderful too. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Thanks for this Rachel. Excellent timing as I am getting frustrated with myself for printing out various song sheets from different online sources. I was just about to go down the paid app route, but your video has persuaded me otherwise. Now starting to use I-Books and setting up my folders quite nicely thank you! Just need to decide how much I have accumulated needs transferring across. Think it needs a bit of a cull as don’t have hours to spare doing it - detracting from valuable Uke playing time😀. Cheers. Huw
@UkuleleWales3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Huw, glad it's been useful. I've only scanned in what I didn't already have digitally or couldn't find online but if you do end up scanning, once you get into the swing of it, it does become simpler. Also, something I didn't mention as I didn't want to confuse, it is possible to just plug your iPad into a PC to transfer the scanned PDFs but it doesn't always work for me, quicker but a bit temperamental.
