This is an immensely helpful video, I had never heard of the trick to cut one side a little shorter when there is no lead tape available. I need to recover some dog beds and zipper by the yard will be required. Thanks.

Hi I have the nylon # 5 zipper tape and am trying to sew over it and the needle keeps getting stuck or breaking. What kind of needle are u using for this?

Hi Leanne, we recommend using a Microtex Sharp or a denim needle in a size 90/14.

The type of zippers that are being demonstrated here are normally set into seams at the beginning and end of the project, like a zippered bag closure. Zippers by the yard are not normally used for garment construction because they lack the zipper stop that would prevent the zipper pull from coming off the project. There are many different types of zippers that are widely available for purchase and typically are sold with intended usage suggestions. Check to ensure that the zipper you are using is appropriate for your project.
