We quit our pool service over a year ago and I've been vacuuming the pool, cleaning and putting all the chemicals myself. We got a water testing kit online cuz the paper tester isn't very accurate on pools. Its been great but the vacuum never had strong section. I usually take the filter out and clean it and no change. Today i was frustrated cuz it wasn't working strong and the pool had a ton of bugs from last night, idk why or where they came from as we've never had that issue and every neighbor had it. They all sunk down after the rain and the corners were covered in black bugs. I turned the drain off and boy the amount of suction got me excited 😂 Can't wait to learn more

My lines aren’t labeled. I just bought the house and they didn’t have them labeled. I’m afraid I’ll close the drain. What happens if I close the skimmers and leave the drain open? Also what’s the drain for? Thanks.
@HallmarkPoolSupplies4 ай бұрын
@@BigMike-Soetoro For normal filtering you want to leave both skimmers and the drain open. The skimmers pull water from the top of the pool and help remove surface debris, the drain pulls water from the bottom of the pool. When vacuuming, leave one skimmer open and close the other skimmer and the drain for more suction. In order to figure out which line is which is easy. Leave one line open and close all other lines, if you see that one of the skimmers is working then the valve that is open is one of your skimmers and you can label it (skimmer 1 for example). Then open another line and close the rest and repeat the same process. Thanks for watching.

Great videos. I'm a new owner to an older pool, but I don't have the jandy pool valves to open/shut the skimmers or drain to help concentrate the vacuuming suction. Should I just hook up my vacuum to the skimmer that's closest to the pump?
@HallmarkPoolSupplies6 ай бұрын
I would recommend putting valves on your skimmer lines and your drain line, this way you can regulate each line. If not you can plug the other skimmer and this will help, however your drain line will still be open and you will lose some suction. Thanks for watching.

If your filter has a multi-port valve then you will backwash until sight glass is clear and then you will need to rinse afterwards. Once you are done you will have to add DE back to the filter through means of your skimmer. The amount needed will depend on the size of your filter, your filter label should tell you how much to add.

Hi, I just bought a home with an inground pool and to say it's complicated is an understatement. The house is in Spain so the setup is a little different but your video's are helping immensely so thanks 😊 A question if you have time. The pool has 2 skimmers AND an in-pool connection for the vacuum which the hose connects directly to without any basket. Should I go directly to the waste pipe or continue through the filter to avoid the possibility of clogging ? Also as the pool water is green and full of algae I've been advised to empty the water and refill with clean water. Is there any maintenance I should do whilst empty as I'm sure it hasn't been emptied in over 20 year's. Thanks in advance ☺️
@HallmarkPoolSupplies2 жыл бұрын
I would vacuum out of the skimmer using a vacuum plate, this way you will not have to deal with any potential clogs. You can drain and clean your pool if it is concrete. If your pool is vinyl then you do not want to empty, you would chemically treat.

@HallmarkPoolSupplies5 ай бұрын
When you vacuum to waste the process is the same as vacuuming in filter. The only difference is you are in the waste position instead of filter. When vacuuming in the waste position you are bypassing the filter. For normal vacuuming and cleaning you would vacuum in the filter position, if a pool is extremely dirty or algae infested then you would vacuum in the waste position. When vacuuming to waste you will lower the water and will have to add water to the pool. Thanks for watching.
