I used one of these on a single panel up in the loft. The thread had stripped where the bleed screw goes so I just drilled and tapped a 6mm hole in a new location at the top of the rad. Worked a treat. Nice 1 James 👍🏻

Due to a failed clutch drilling a 6" hole for 155 btu Grant Vortex flue i now have a distal radial fracture on my wrist with stretched and tore tendents. In a cast for the next 6 weeks and months for tendents to repair.I stupidly continued to work as didn't want to hold up sparks and plasterers or let the custurd down. Moral of the story replace your core drill every two years or get it serviced.Always follow correct procedure when drilling ..we all know how cores like to jam.Off topic guys but thought it might make some fellas think twice and have safety in mind.My first accident on site apart from falling through a ceiling as an apprentice.😀 .Its going to be a tuff year keep the vids coming as they keep me sane. Safety first your health is your wealth.

Great video James with lots of useful tips. It says on the instructions that ideally you should fit the Aladdin Autovent on the side of the radiator where hot water comes in (generally the side with the thermostat)

I had an Aladdin autovent HV30 and it wasn't much good. It ended up corroding with the holes getting blocked by crusty gunk (yes, the system was inhibited and has a Magnaclean installed) after around 3 years. I needed to replace it eventually when it started to weep. Went back to using a standard vent plug.

Every radiator in my house has these but I’ve fitted the non replaceable cartridge model. The whole valve is cheaper than a replacement cartridge so I never saw the point in buying the even more expensive replaceable cartridge model. I didn’t know that the cartridge could be replaced so easily so maybe it is worth the extra.

Very good video, but if you just leave it to vent the air manually, how long are we talking? An hour, two hours, overnight, three days? Any ideas? Just bought some and fitted them after seeing another one of your vids, but still got the classic cold top third of both of the two rads I fitted them to at present (rads were fitted yesterday). Edit: Ah, watched a bit further on in the vid and seen the table now ...

So I'm a DIY, and have tried to follow your video on how to fit a genuine Aladin autovents. Failed: I shut off both radiator taps and slowly started to drain the rad from the the manual bleed valve and waited and waited and waited. The water came out dirty at first then clean but would not stop flowing. Tried a second rad and the same thing happened, so what am I doing wrong? And the obvious questionis can you fit these devices to all central heating systems?

Been using them for years but only reliable when using on a spotlessly clean system any gunk and they will clog up within the year. Theres also the more simple 1\8 auto vent that use to come with the cast rads £1.50 each on ebay but these actually drip if the system is not spotless.Moral of the story great on a new clean system.

If your needing to bleed air vents regularly, I would suggest the air being released is in fact hydrogen indicating advanced electrolic corrosion, air released would be replaced with oxygenated water which will feed the corrosion process. C

It may be worth introducing a maintenance schedule changing either the valve or cartridge after 5 years, an easy way of establishing if the valve has stopped venting would be to feel the radiators, to see if there are cold spots near the top.
