I highly recommend you watch the full video to understand the science of why you should follow the 3 tips. It will give you a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of visualization for enhancing athletic performance (and why it is the most commonly used strategy by elite level athletes and sports psychologists). Thanks for watching and happy training!

Sports Psychology Coach can you break down what to do in a quick summary
@masteryblueprint_5 жыл бұрын
Well that depends on what you want to achieve and on your skill level (like I explained in the video). For example, what you will visualize to motivate yourself will be different than what you would visualize to practice a movement combination or practice different scenarios that you could encounter during competition. Generally, you should strive to make your visual imagery as close to reality as possible by including all of the senses and details you would experience (touch, taste, smell, sight and sounds) (location of where you will be playing, normal timing). This will allow you to better simulate/practice what you will experience before it actually happens. Also, the more you practice, the better you will get at it and the more it effective your visual imagery will become for improving performance. I will make another video in the future of guided visualizations and models that are commonly used by sports psychologists. Stay tuned. ^ The tips I mentioned above and in the video are the fundamentals (most important ones). Happy training!

Hey Michael, to be honest I'm not sure (I can't say for certain because I've never read any studies specific to visualization and antidepressants - and I'm not sure if there is any specific research on it). If you were able to overcome the side effects of the antidepressants and generate enough motivation, then I can't think of anything specific that would mess up your ability to visualize. With that being said, I have no personal experience with this so take my response with a grain of salt. All the best, Michael!

Thank you SO MUCH for all your hard work in putting this information together. I wanted you to know that you are helping so many people, not just athletes. I'm a 270 lb woman who is starting her weight loss journey with simple yoga and plain old walking in in my local area. I came to your channel, not for exercising ideas (which you can get anywhere) but for information about the mind-body link when it comes to moving my body. I have great dreams for my future health and wellness, and this video shows me that reaching them is possible, and that much of that starts in the mind. Once again, THANK YOU!!! You're a star. :)

I don't want to give specific recommendations until I take a course on it. I would say that coming up with it by yourself is a safe bet if you are focusing on what you want to achieve and the steps/actions you need to take to make it happen.

Thank you for some helpful reminders. I don't seem to have the skill of vivid mental imagery. What should I do? How can I develop the skill? Or alternatively, what else can I try?
@masteryblueprint_3 жыл бұрын
I need to research these questions. I do not know how important the vividness component is to help one feel more confident or motivated. Maybe a topic for future video. Mindfulness meditation is a good strategy to improve focus, which may help visual imagery, but I do not have a study to reference to back this up
@jbrains_bowler3 жыл бұрын
@@masteryblueprint_ Many thanks for the quick comment. I meditate regularly and this is almost certainly helping my performance from the point of view of regulating emotional response. If vividness is indeed less significant, then I'd like to know what visualization means to someone like me. Does it become "simply" mental rehearsal? Thanks for offering to share whatever you discover.

Does listening to pump up music help while visualizing?
@masteryblueprint_4 жыл бұрын
Hmm interesting question. I’m not sure there is specific research on music and visual imagery. Off the top of my head, I think I remember reading somewhere that music can increase physiological arousal and motivation. I also think Michael Phelps would prepare for every race listening to Till I collapse by Eminem while visualizing the race. I think it ultimately comes down to preference. The goal is to simulate what you will, could and want to experience ahead of time, so that means trying to make it as close to reality as possible. If music won’t be on while you compete perhaps it may be useful to also visualize without the music. However, if music helps motivate you and help you get in the zone, then it may be a good strategy!

Hello Andres! I have lost the ability to visualize... How would I go about improving my performance and skills? To clarify, I cannot dream or see mental visual images at all - No sounds, sights or emotion. Just darkness. I used to visualize for fun when learning board games. It helped me create traps and strategies and most importantly... recognize patterns. Do you have any suggestions on the matter? They call it "Aphantasia" Keep up the good content.
@masteryblueprint_4 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about this, so I wouldn't be able to give any thoughts. I would recommend that you ask a licensed psychologist instead. In terms of what can help improve your performance and skills, meditation and deliberate practice could help (check out my videos on those topics). Meditation can improve your attention systems and ability to focus. Deliberate practice is a form of practice that consists of 4 principles that could help optimize your training sessions

According to the video what exactly is visualization? And how does it work on the brain in order to improve performance?
@masteryblueprint_4 жыл бұрын
Below is not a scientific definition, but I'm sure you could find one if you did your own research. Here is my take. Visual imagery = thinking/imagining in vivid detail. In regards to the content of the visual imagery: what you would like to achieve, how you will achieve it, and how to overcome obstacles that may get in the way. By imagining yourself playing the piano for example, you activate similar brain regions that get activated when you actually play the piano, thereby strengthening the neural connections. Visual imagery also can increase motivation and confidence . Example, imaging yourself successfully completing a task or planning and strategizing how you will get it done (and what you will do overcome obstacles as they arise) can build confidence/self-efficacy.

@@Chavanun555 For now, I'm sure prices will come down. I think that in the future technology that combines biofeedback, neurofeedback, and virtual reality will be more widely accessible and affordable, which would essentially enable athletes to continue to train while their body rests. This could be a good and bad thing. Good thing is that athletes who are fully committed and willing to devote more time to developing their skills are more likely to succeed. However, the downside is that as you level out the environment (through technology), individual (genetic) differences become a more important variable for success.
