A great video, Dave. I love doing the wash and tidy on my truck during the warmer months, but as you can imagine, here in Canada we're well into the winter filthy car season. I certainly appreciate the no bullshit tone of this video. Over the past few years, I've spent hundreds of dollars on trying "the next big thing" off the shelves and ive become tired of it. The hobby's becoming not fun anymore. During the summer, I deal with a mixture of heavy grit and asphalt mist, as i work next door to an asphalt production facility. If you have any videos of washing that crap off without doing damage to my paint, or removing the protection products by using tar remover every wash, I'd be appreciative! Enjoy your channel, thanks so much!🙂

Interesting video Dave , I usually do contactless washes on my own cars over the winter to keep them clean and remove road salt and dirt. Sometimes have to wash twice a week so it’s quicker keeps the cars relatively clean , accept it’s not hand wash clean but will be dirty soon after anyway.

For me, (loving your content by the way) the timing of this upload came at a funny time for me. I came back home late yesterday afternoon, to my mum who got my Wash Bucket out, with multiple microfibre towels, doing a rinseless wash to her car (our family car since 2004). I had the biggest smile on my face. I went round the otherside, and she even had my pump sprayer as well. I joked with my mum saying, "who tought you how to do this efficiently", which she replied with; "I just watch how you do it when you clean both our cars, plus i didn't have to get the gardon hose out" 😂. It came up to good enough standard, as you mentioned in your video in the second half, being how we like to have our cars cleaned with the products we have. And to be fair, along with your content, along with other fellow detailers on this platform, no doubt I wouldn't have been able to transfer that knowledge with cleaning my own car as a hobbiest/enthusiast over to my mum. So on my behalf, I also say thank you to you as well mate 🙂. P.S my car is actually looking pretty grubby, and even more so now, lol.

Thank you for the video Dave. It makes perfect sense to use cheaper industrial strength cleaning chemicals during the winter months as most people who use their cars regularly during the winter just want them to be clean. Unless they're OCD they will not care whether the two bucket method is used with multiple wash mitts and a ph neutral shampoo. I remember a client who had a brand new Aston Martin convertible and he didn't give a stuff about his car being detailed and would quite happily use a cheap hand car wash.

Halfords Advanced wheel cleaner, AutoBrite APC and Bilt Hamber Auto Foam. I figured it’d be good enough to get the grime off, car dirt is a month old, we travel through a lane passed a few farms 4/5 times a week so this should be interesting……………….😮

Dave this video was a Whopper and you are telling the truth. Everyone has different circumstances and they could be using what they need to make a living. The industry is so caught up in this SiO2 and other chemicals but it's not as good as people think. I have a degree in chemistry and everything is diluted with water and other chemicals and put in a bottle. If you have a certain wax it's not true wax since it is in a liquid form, mixed with H2O and then SiO2 is added. Solutions are a solute which is the products and a solvent a liquid and they combined. This is a great video and again you said it depends on the area and the weather and the circumstances. There are too many products on the market Ph balanced soap or snow foam or the perfect wax, the best formulated tire shine, the "ceramic" interior cleaner and the best vegan or real leather cleaner. The industry is creating products just to make money and a lot of young detailer's are wasting money trying to keep up and use the latest and greatest products. Have a great day and I hope you had a Wonderful birthday Dave

Nice! Yes i totally agree that if you detail your car, you can feel like a car janitor. I just cleaned this and its dirty again. Its harder this time of year, the days are short and the salt on the road is thick. You always have to go with what your budget allows, especially if its a hobby. But, ... i have not seen any chemical that can do the same job as a contact wash, it may look clean when its wet, but it will dry dirty again. Some hot water in a bucket of shampoo solves the issue for me, but getting a dry day is another matter :)

I love washing the cars, it’s my escape. But, with a young family I don’t get that much time. So, I’ve been washing the cars without touching for quite a while, especially in the winter. The cars are wax coated, I use BH auto-wheel, blast off with pressure washer. BH touchless snow foam, blast off with pressure washer. Then final rinse with resin filter. Finally, a quick blow off to remove some of the water, especially around the panel gaps. I can wash the car and pack away within an hour, it’s not prefect but because of the coating it’s fairly clean.

Great vid. I have to confess more recently I have done this on our cars. Too cold and wet to spend a couple of hours cleaning. This method does shift the worst and at least make the car more presentable. It actually works quite well in a car that was cleaned properly a couple of weeks before so you are just shifting light grime/dirt. I sometimes then dry it with my blower. 👍

I often go to a self service in wintertime, take a pumpfoamer or sprayer and put a stronger prewash on the car, letting it soak and rinse it off. By the time i get home from the self service it’s gonna be a little dirty regardless. Having a ceramic coating also helps a lot. Once every 3-4 weeks i do a full hand wash

For many years I was totally obsessed with having a detailed car, wasted hours of my life washing, drying, waxing, etc etc. Then about 6 years ago I had an epiphany and thought what the hell am I doing and haven’t washed it once since. It’s now absolutely filthy, it even has green algae down the sides with lots of marks and little scratches. I don’t care. I park it anywhere. I have it regularly serviced and I enjoy it just as much if not more and plan to keep it until it’s scrapped. Set yourselves free people.

Totally agree with your comment about people’s attitudes changing. Each to their own as they say., One of my neighbours doesn’t clean his car from one year to the next, the other is a bucket, sponge and chamois leather man. Inside I’m screaming at both but they probably look at me and think im off my head with the amount of time I take to clean my car. The products I use are top brands and I’m still looking for the best for each step in the process but I’m also looking to cut down the amount of time I spend achieving a great job. life’s to short and so are the weekends, so 4 hours on my car isn’t happening too many times a year I’ve completely removed how to clean my car with a bucket and sponge from my memory but as winter sets in it’s whatever’s quickest to keep the shine on and the dirt off

13:32 Thank God a professional Detailer has said this at last. Since "discovering" waterless washing this Summer, I've stopped worrying about this chemical and that chemical, or this micro-fibre mitt, or that micro-fibre mitt, I now just use a pump sprayer and sponges; and it works just as well. However! There is still room for the traditional wash. And, weather depending, I will still do that. And use a giant mitt like A yumcars wash pad and a bucket of very soapy water.

I completely agree with you. I had some Frogchem stuff delivered recently and I use them every day. My customers are valet customers rather than detail customers who want a better job than the car wash but don’t need it to be brand new. These have fitted in perfectly, I even use one of those yellow wash mitts. My customers don’t know any different, nor do they care. So why complicate things? Yes, I do keep nice stuff for my nicer vehicles and more profitable jobs but when you need something that’s fit for purpose and does a great job then I wouldn’t look past Frogchem. Their shampoo in particular is brilliant, a capful does a whole bucket and it’s extremely sudsy. In our line of work it seems to be if you don’t do it the way the internet tells you then you’re doing it wrong, but I couldn’t disagree more. Do what works well for you and, more importantly, your clients.

@@epicautomotivedetailing It’s going back to ‘getting what you pay for’ For £20 I can’t expect 3 bucket methods, clay bars and tornadors But for £420 I would. Personally I would much rather buy a car from someone who paid even £20 for a valet once a month at the scratch and shine to have it cleaned, rather than one that hasn’t seen a hoover or screenwash for 3 years. Says a lot about that person, anyone making a bit of an effort to look after their vehicle is better than someone who doesn’t bother at all

Yes I do really enjoy the whole process like you and others have shown us but really sometimes it's just about getting the damn thing clean. I've noticed over recent months that more people are posting about which is the ABSOLUTE best product and that others are saying Tfr's and pH neutral snow foam etc etc are a waste of time and or money. At the end of the day my car is driven daily, we only have the one and it's not a £100k supercar but it's my hobby to clean it, it's not a career/job to keep it clean. I use Touch-Less (BH) and have had a number of people ask how do I keep my car so clean, the answer is a relatively easy to apply coating. For me, the best I have found is Touch-On (BH) as once applied, you can see the hydro-phobic properties at work, helping to keep the car clean and easy for subsequent Touch-Less (BH) washes. The Touch-On (BH) coating may only last a month of washes, but who cares, it is so easy to apply. I still like to spend the time to give the car a good clean now and again, I enjoy the process, I use the multi-mitt method, 4 for the car, 2 for the wheels, dragging multiple buckets around for me is no fun, and I have been using this method for years. I used to love spending time polishing a car, especially for car shows, my go to was Mer but that is behind me now as my health has deteriorated.

Computers are boring, cars are not. I use the best chemical or tool for the job. I have collected various computers over the years. I clean Porsches, Maseratis and Mazdas. I use, from my collection, what I feel does the best job for the vehicle. Simple. The last two weeks I have washed in the rain, yes it’s rained in Sydney recently, but then finished off inside. I offer pick up and drop off so on delivery it was put in the client’s garage and I re-dried it. Simple. Lloyd

Yes you can clean a car without touching it, Acid based TFR. It will remove all of the tfr and grime off the car but it won't be good foe your paint long term, like most cheap car washes use. (Fades registration plates, and dull clear coat over time) But the best option would be to use Koch Chemie - Green Star (it's a mild alkaline APC). I use it as a prewash 1 part Green Star to 9/10 parts water. It's great for traffic film, mud and road grime. It's alright on mild brake dust, but not the best. As a cheap all purpose that is safe on paint, alloys, chrome and most fabrics it's great to have. I buy it in 10 litre containers every few years and use it on all the family cars. It's great stuff. I apply it with a pump sprayer I got from screwfix or toolstation, can't remember one of the two.

Still can't bear the thought of going to the local scratch yard and paying £12 to £15 for someone to put used wash mitts with crud in them on my paint work and ruin whatever protection I've put on the car with their cheap caustic TFR.

the normal folk want a valet not a detail.. loads just want like you say a quick clean..you can sell this version of a car clean a lot more as most people have normal cars. What u done is brill add a quick shampoo wash and its 30 mins work, rifle through loads of cars. £25 per car.... its enough... can add a spray sealant after and charge a few £ more.... for me this type of valeting is the bread and butter as the full vehicle detail is only for certain people and their vehicles.

Dave have you ever been asked about the environmental impact of these cleaning chemicals being washed down storm drains and eventually flowing into the water system? I think Car Wash businesses have laws on how they dispose of their waste water (?) but those rules will not apply for DIY and mobile detailers. What are your thoughts ? Are there any natural eco friendly cleaning solutions?

Dave do you not rinse snow foam off from the bottom up? It makes it much easier to see where you have been and ensures every part of the surface gets the dirt blasted off with the pressure washer as opposed to it just getting rinsed off as the water flows down the car leaving dirt behind.

Yes 100% correct. Those people still value their cars but just in a different way to anyone who's in this industry. But if their values of their own cars keeps the car wash industry going which ultimately can benefit detailers by giving them the highest paying clients so it's a good thing!

The dreaded time of year when the road salt gets spread. I have to agree the snobbery is rife in the detailing scene, if you dont use product x, y or z you're some kind of pillock or hack. I think we have all been that person at some point jumping on the band wagon, but the longer you do this you realise thats a foolish perspective to have. If a person is happy and getting results from something that isnt "scene" brands good on them, or maybe they take it to a hand car wash (those people work hard) and they are satisfied, good on them. Maybe we dont all agree on certain things or like certain brands or methods but thats cool, what a wonderful thing personal preference and choice is, but we dont need to disrespect someone's choice. The fact is we are very much in the minority when it comes to vehicle exterior and interior maintenance 98% of car owners dont really give a monkeys as long as its shiny and smells nice.

Hi Dave I worked for a pressure jetting company as foreman technician,so have worked on a lot of them, was going to go secondhand at one point but after deliberating the maintenance costs I went for a Karcher 6/12 at £1800 great machine with scale protect for the heating coil, and you can jet on full power with detergent, not cheap but spares readily available for it so future proof,be careful of the Chinese washers as they don’t have a spares backup, they produce these cheap hot washers and then discontinue after a short while. My mate picked up a Clarke 100 hot wash for £70 100 bar unit ,I thought easy enough to get it right I was so wrong no parts available for it anywhere ,thought it was built in Italy like most of the Clarke stuff turns out it was Chinese ,but with a bit of reverse engineering and a few fittings off eBay it’s up and running now 1400 psi and 110 degrees if needed ,he’s over the moon with it now and it stands him in at £170 but it would have been a scrapper if I didn’t know how to do it so a cheap washer do your research as cheap can be expensive in the long run,get a known make and enquire about spares availability in a year or so when your out of warranty ,a lot of the jet wash repair shops wen with covid and people are struggling to get them fixed,I’m semiretired now but I could be at it all week if I wanted that’s why there are so many washers on eBay and marketplace for spares or repair hope this helps I like your unit that’s what I need but they are so expensive anyway good luck with the valeting and getting a good hotwash
