I've finally reached the point where I don't have excessive halo frizz! I've been sulfate free (except for clarifying washes) for several years now, silicone free (except for mistakes) for 5 months, I reduced my heat styling 5 months ago, and finally quit heat (except low heat diffusing) 2 months ago. Part your braids in the middle and swing them towards the front, while shampooing. It helps balance out the extreme heaviness from the water!

Never washed my hair while in braids. I would just spray with aloe and water. Let my hair dry a little for a few mins and while still damp put black castor oil avocado oil, peppermint oil, lemon oil, & water spray mix on my scalp

You can use a hand held shower head to shampoo your roots without getting all your braids wet and heavy. Dries quicker also!

Great video with a lot of information. I have not done the braid thing. I lost quite a bit of hair several months ago and the pharmacist said it could be one of my meds. Sigh. I was so excited about the stretch out length. so I washed it and while I was putting on my leave in conditioner, the hair was coming all out in my hand. I went from down past my bra band stretch to the collar bone and lot of that probably need cutting. I am 57 and hair don't grow that easy nor thick for some of us. I have been looking at braided styles, but worry about age appropriateness of the style. I do need a don't touch style, where I can swim and wear hats. So glad you made this video. I've been thinking about getting twists but so very concerned about how the added (nvr had any hair extensions before) hair would affect my real hair ie, dryness, breakage and so on. I have fine hair and it is fairly easy to break - thin strands (although I have been DC'g more than ever, thanks to you)! But i guess no need to worry ... Just Do it!!! Thank you!

@@niyah_0827 Yeah it does but for you I suggest to soak the hair that's touching your scalp in warm water and applecider vinegar as well. The next time you get your hair braided soak the hair in that mixture for about 20 minutes. The alkaline coating on the hair will come off. You might be allergic to it.

@@niyah_0827 As for oils, I like to use extra Virginia olive oil, with 10 to 12 drops of peppermint oil and tea tree oil to soothe my scalp. It really does help

You can also try shampoo and water in a spray bottle to help cleanse your scalp, that way your braids won't get drenched and you won't ent up with a strained neck lol

I love braids it gives me an opportunity to let my hair rest. I shed a lot of hair and I’m medium density and medium length. I will follow these techniques. Oh most silicones are water 💦 soluble and will rinse out with sulfate shampoo.

Yes but sulfate is worse for your hair than silicone! Lol it’s a bad cycle to start... especially for dry curly hair

I get braids for the summer mostly. I’m the pool and the ocean a lot. How many times do you suggest i wash my hair for this? I usually wash my braids every other day but this something I’m curious about

Rosalynn Simmons Wash your hair every time you leave the ocean or pool. The salt water and/or chlorine will dry out your hair. And worst case scenario is chlorine damage. The days where you are not swimming your hair can rest :)

You have to deep condition a lot after going lighter! And scrunch a lot afterwards while styling. That’ll help get your curls healthy again and get the curl pattern back

I finally got box braids for the first time yesterday!!! And your videos helped so much 💖 Thanks Bianca. Just one question - is it suppose to be kinda difficult and a little painful at the scalp when you tie the braids into an updo the first few days? My braids don’t feel tight when they’re down but I feel more of a pull at my roots when I put each braid up. Should I just give it a few days for it to loosen up to do an updo? I don’t want to yank my hair out too soon lol

If you're planning on using heat, you'll want to stay away from synthetic hair. It's basically plastic so it melts.
