I got the 4 tuner atsc 3.0 version from the kick starter when they were getting the early units funded. I also have the HD HomRun Prime that still works with my cable system that I don't think they sell any more. I got a dirt cheap yagi directional antenna with a rotator and mounted it to the top rail of the steps to my back door and I use it to record one of my favorite late night shows just to see if it works, plus the bitrate is higher than the cable box gives me. So far nobody has enabled 4khdr broadcasts here, and several networks got greedy and encrypted their signals. I do have a 2022 Sony TV that has the 3.0 with the decoder built in so I can watch them with it. The 1.0 channels can't be encrypted so I record those instead. Silicon Dust claims the 3.0 tuner will get the encryption support soon but it's been a while and I haven't checked lately. There are a few tuners with encryption and the 3.0 support now that can DVR but generally they are one tuner only and expensive. Hopefully the decoding gets sorted out for HD HomeRun as I like their networked setup much better. I can watch all of the tuners and recordings from the app and any TV on my network can use it with the app.

You need to warn people about the ATSC-3 disaster that is coming. They are going to shut down all the ATSC-1 stuff in 2027 and it will be replaced with ATSC-3. Suddenly: 1) You current decoder box will not work any more. 2) The ATSC-3 boxes will lack many of the nice features but cost 3 times as much 3) Because of the DRM encryption, you won't be able to watch a lot of stuff

Okay what about ATSC 3.0 support on the 4K unit ? I thought that was needed because most channels are encrypted.

ATSC-3 will be a disaster and you will need a new box. ATSC-1 can carry 4K content. There is a station in Washington state doing that right now. ATSC-3 has DRM encryption and that is making a total mess.

Because the tuners are part of the local network in your house and just about any smart TV can see them on the network.
