Tips of the video: a) Backstall the foil kite and then release b) loop the kite P.S. Great to see Dimitri using Ozone kites ;)

Hi Dimitri, interesting start method in light conditions. I used similar technique with my Twintip and 18qm Sonic. Insteed of Backstalling it completely to the powerzone, I prefere to backstall only a bit from Zenit back into powerzone, then I grap with my backhand into the backwards stearing line to force my Foilkite into a 180degree propeller (some racekites can this well) and start like normal powerdive to start. For my experinace I can provide, if Wind is 5-6kn (or less, keep in mind warterstart a crashed kite is a challange), Zenit parking needs to be carefully to allways have tension into the lines, best is a constant moving arround zenit between 11 and 1 clock. To start with my Directional in absolutly low end, best for me works with the kiteloop starting technic you mentioned at the end... Starting at parking position, do a big kiteloop into backside direction close to the Powerzone. Startpoint comes when the outside Foilkite Tip crosses waterlevel (be carefull not to hit the water/need to know hiw fast your kite turns and reacts in low wind) and climp with turning speed into the Powerzone to riding direction. Then you do it like a normal start. Successfactors are try to hold the Boardedge to minimize the draging into the Water and give best line tenstion. Second try to loop the kite with the only neccessary backline tension for steering to generate max Speed until the Boardstarts at the end of the loop. Benefit of this kiteloop will be to have a fast moving kite (much more at the startpoint after the backstall but position will be the same into the windwindow) which can generate a lot more power. Would like to remind that a foilkite generate much more power with its moving Speed (like the airplane physics) then a tube kite will do. Therefore most Tubekiters often pull the bar to hard at the start beginning or low wind then the dynamic power generation is reduced a lot. Foilkites have a more fragile power generation which can be generated with moving sweet spots on the bar this always varies kite speed and angle of attack (pulling the bar) BR Martin

I've been struggling too with getting up on a high aspect foil kite.... having come from LEIs. The foil kite generates a LOAD of power when it is moving but very little when it is static. With a small hydrofoil often I need to do a second sine to get a another injection of power but turning the kite quickly chokes it and it stops before building the power again - meanwhile I sink/fall in. Definitely the up stroke is more powerful and the backstall to up-stroke through the power zone as you describe will be my next step. Thanks!! Looping the kite I have been trying but is tricky though as there are degrees of looping a big slow loop creates GOBS of POWER and jettisons me over the top of the board (I am strapless) .... a tight quick loop not so much - my kite almost spins with very little power so I need to play with the loop radius to create just the right amount of power to get me up and potentially multiple loops to keep the kite moving until I am generating the apparent wind to keep me going. Not much success yet - I will master it though!!!

Thanks, that's such a good tip, the wind was super light and onshore last weekend, + tide going out fast. I will try it next time. 11m lines! wow, I thought 14m lines were short. Any tips for getting out when the wind is light and onshore and you have to get out through waves ? My local beach need to go about 200m out just to get to deep enough water

Downlooping the kite will be easier than stalling the kite but that is only if you are using longer lines. So if you are using 15/18/20m lines then Downlooping will be easier. If you are using 11/12/13m lines on a 17/19/21m kite then Stalling the kite will be easier.

Thanks for sharing this! probably another similar way (with foil kites) would be to steer the kite first towards 10-11 opposite direction and then sending it aggressively in the proper direction afterward (flipping it).

No this won't work especially when you are using 11 or 12 m lines because you don't have space for the kite to travel.

Any tip when you're strapless and need one hand to keep the board in possition? I guess looping would work better...

if ur lines are a bit longer just down loop it works better but if they are that short with big kite definitely stall it

True. This is what I said on the video. It is hard to downloop a 19 or 20 m kite when you are using 11m lines ;-)

Does this technique work also for twin tip boards without foil? I use foil kite with regular light wind twin tip.

Hi Raf, if you are interested for my practise - check out my comment below the video. Also do Twintip starts with 18qm, low end with propeller start or correct kiteloop if its very low wind

@@martinbrunnengraber9875 Kite loops are also great but when using a FOIL board it's a little hard then using a TWIN TIP. Plus kitelooping a 19 or 18 or 21m on 11m lines requires a lot of skills. Since the kite is bigger then your lines ;-)
