White wax and your choice of color crayon works well, 30% crayon and 70% wax, gives you flexibility with color, but more importantly it gives you a wax consistency that is easier to brake the seal on.

I print my lables on regular paper with an laser printer, cut them to size and if i am funky i put them for 3 minutes in an flat dish with some cold, strong coffee to give it an yellow/Bronish look. I dry the paper in the oven on the lowest setting. for glue i go the old school way too. Take some potato or corn starc, mix it with cold water till you get an tick fluid. Take the lable and give it a good dipp before you slap it on the bottle ;)Send you some Pics on twitter from my beeswax test .

That being said, I'm building some props for a thing, and I am a little obsessive compulsive about realism, and so I wanted wax seals on some potion bottles, and also broken seals, and wasn't sure where to start. Gday mate! I know this is a really old video, but when you put them stickers on your bottles I got to thinking of a great way of sticking them. At first when I heard about it I was quite sceptical, but it did work like a charm, the labels stick really really good, I still have an old bottle from 2014 where the label looks as good as new, and it comes off even easier with just plain old water and leaves no residues at all. The trick is..... MILK! :D Just brush some milk on the back of the label, smack it on the bottle, position it to your pleasing and wipe of the excess. Keep up the good work! :)

I've got wax to do that but I've only used the heat shrink wraps. The shrink wrap has one drawback, unless you have a heat gun you have to hold it over a heat source.
@jimdent3516 жыл бұрын
If the shrink wraps are the same as what's used for wine, I do have a method that works well. Just put the caps over your bottle and submerge them in a pot of boiling water. You can hold onto the very bottom of the wrap with a finger tip, and once the bottle hits the water the wrap begins to shrink allowing you to take your finger away. Alternatively, you can hold the shrink wrap in place with a spoon as you submerge the bottle into the water. Hot water is way faster than using a heat gun. you are literally done in under 2 seconds.
@codyb40166 жыл бұрын
I use boiling water as well. It works best for me. Every time I have tried a heat gun, I usually get wrinkles on a few bottles. No wrinkles is the water.

When we used to do our wines with wax, we would melt equal parts crayons and hot-glue-stick. Works a treat, but is quite thick, and very sticky when melted, sets really fast, lots of colours available :). I do have a question though. Over here most commercial spirits are sold in bottles with metal lids with plastic liners. Why would a home distiller not do the same ? Love what you are doing and wish it was legal here. (Home of Jamersons)
