After years of using the first method and never thinking much about it, seeing the third option has most certainly been an eye-opener for me. It also makes the watch more balanced because it wears closer to the skin and the there's a bit more weight underneath your wrist. It just makes perfect sense.

Option 3 is genius & made my watches feel a whole lot better on my wrist (literally feel totally connected). I like the fact that most of the wear is normally to the inside of your wrist (rest wrist a lot on desk at work without realizing it) & the strap keepers protect the strap & cushions the strap to wrist connection. Loving it on my Tom Ford Ocean plastic auto & Hamilton Khaki. Thank you

Since I'm not actually using Natos on any military maneuvers, I love the 3rd option. It's still secure, not nearly as thick under the watch, and almost "padded" below the wrist
@vipermoon_ Жыл бұрын
Option three has the major benefit of reducing the height of the watch. It's now single-ply between your wrist and the watch, like a Eulit Perlon strap! However, 1) the buckle and one of the retainers are in constant contact, and 2) the other two retainers are under your wrist. I can see these two reasons resulting in additional wear on the metal pieces (especially for PVDs or metals softer than steel). Edit: Solution to problem #1 using option three is to put the end into only the buckle. This will leave nylon between the first retainer and buckle, protecting them from each other. The first retainer, however, will sit loose underneath everything (between your wrist and the strap).

I have a variation of version 4 for really long straps. Start from 6 and - more important -, at the end do not put the "excess" fabric through both loops straight. Put straight through the loop closer to the buckle but then above the last loop, bend + fold back and not stuff it into the loop. This way, if you have about an inch+ excess strap, it would hold the watch at least for some time in place, even if the buckle fails somehow. Most ways using Nato straps emphasize how great a Nato would keep the watch hanging at least on it's second spring bar if one fails, but completely ignore the fact a buckle, especially when constructed using spring bars itself, might fail too.
@watchcraft3 жыл бұрын
great point, i‘ve had buckles fail on me before

I can see why some would like the 3rd way, it's more like a traditional strap, but I always wear a NATO the first way. Having the buckle on the side allows me to use my computer mouse without the buckle pressing on the underside of my wrist.

Great video,thanks . For myself worn the natos on divers for 34 years,after losing a seiko while diving,how don't know as wasn't there when I checked bottom time. I use the 3rd attachment version you showed as saves some bulk under bottom of watch. Good thing about the nato types is can change daily and have a different look. Olive is my favourite colour but do swap for a grey or blue. Only down fall for them is being immersed in salt water a lot ,can get a bit messy if not rinsed off. Luckily not lost another watch .

Version 3 and 1 are both awesome depending on what you want (why you buy NATOs) If you like the colourful, interchangeable look or comfort of a NATO it’s position 3 If you want to go for kind of a military-style look (especially on a field watch) position 1 gives you that excess look and then with it a sort of utilitarian style
