Youve saved me some headaches! I just got an 82 wagon with a weber conversion already done, and someone put the carb on backwards! Its got a ton of issues and wont run right, it jolts and bucks around. Ive cut the mixture way down and it has smoothed out a ton, but now it dies when turning right.

Float set too high? Kind of sounds like it. Also look into having someone (or you if you’re into carburetors) look at the primary and secondary jet sizes and the idle jet.

I will for sure look into these! Thank you!!

I’m not able to get the throttle/choke to move at all because of the brake vacuum hose and fitting directly underneath. It’s in the way completely, giving the tab for the choke no room at all to move!
@Foxcanfixit2 ай бұрын
@@ohoneyplease do you have the adapter plate on backwards maybe? Or try a different barbed fitting to gain some clearance?
@ohoneyplease2 ай бұрын
@ if you’re sitting in the drivers seat, the fitting is on the left side of the carb. Should it be on the right? It looks identical to your setup. I can’t see what you did down there but even with another fitting it won’t clear. The tab sits on the neck of the fitting, not the protruding part.
@Foxcanfixit2 ай бұрын
@ I know I had to use a different smaller barb fitting, if it’s hitting the hex-nut part of the fitting you could grind that down maybe? I didn’t have any clearance issues with a different fitting that I can remember. I’ll keep looking thru old footage and see if I can tell exactly what I had to use
@ohoneyplease2 ай бұрын
@ I truly appreciate your help. I will see if I can find a different smaller fitting for sure. What if I grind down the choke tab a little too?

I have a 82 Honda Accord and our engine bay is pretty much the same except I have a break booster. How did you block off the exhaust hose from behind/bottom of the manifold that connected to the stock hair filter housing?
@Foxcanfixit Жыл бұрын
I didn't, its a breather hose and there was a spot for it on my housing

That really cleaned things up under the hood. I'd be curious if this has a positive effect on mpg.

I’m about to fill the tank up today to find out that exact thing. It’s definitely way more user friendly for carb and distributor tuning now that’s for sure!

Thanks. It was a tough decision, but I literally tried everything I could think of and read about to get that original setup to function well consistently, but it was worn out beyond practical repair.

How did you manage throttle cable
@Foxcanfixit Жыл бұрын
Using the supplied optional throttle bracket that had 8-10 holes in it. Take the throttle bracket off the carb and put that one on in its place then pick which hole works best to give you idle and full throttle.
@FXCartel Жыл бұрын
@@Foxcanfixit I've got that set up already but was thinking it would be possible to take the original bracket off the og carb but then re read the forums and it turns out it's a waste of time an I learnt that too. 😂 They say a suzuki samurai linkage kit works well but I've got to ship to the UK
@Foxcanfixit Жыл бұрын
@@FXCartel there should also be a link piece in the kit that will allow you to use the OG Honda throttle cable with the end cut off. The wire goes into the fitting and the link attaches to any of the holes in the bracket. Then cut your throttle cable to the length you need and cinch it down in the fitting. If the kit didn’t come with it look on the redline site for it or maybe Holley

I've thought about cutting the ball off but that's my last resort id try order the suzuki linkage for 30 quid before chopping it as I might not need it again but it's hard to find any anymore 🤣 wish I never took. How come you did not put the heat sheild back on? What did you do with the rest of the vacuum hoses?
@Foxcanfixit Жыл бұрын
Heat shield was not necessary with all the emissions stuff removed. All the emissions related vacuum hoses canisters and stuff bolted to the firewall and fender were removed. Including the metal vacuum lines.

If you keep the heat shield do you place the first gasket on top of the shield or below?

Great video! I have an 81 Civic and swapped out the old carb for the same one you put on and mine is facing the other way, meaning the choke is facing the front of the car. Do you think that makes any difference in how this performs? Also, I have gone through two sets of gaskets already so make sure you have some extra on hand. I had the carb studs come loose and shake the entire carb off it's manifold mount creating a vacuum leak and soaking the gasket with gas. Going for my third round of gaskets, so hopefully three times the charm ;)
@Foxcanfixit2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure it makes any difference, the adapters that mine came with only went 1 way so I couldn’t go Choke to the front 🤷♂️. I knew the gaskets were a known problem so I bought some gasket sealer and used it on both sides of both base gaskets. No issues yet, but I have another gasket set on back order because I know they will fail.

@@Foxcanfixit yeah, my buddy suggested not putting sealer in cause it's messy and get potentially get in the manifold but I'm thinking to go that route once the new gaskets come in. I also jerry rigged a bolt to hold the throttle cable b/c the one sent broke when trying to set the cable length. so watch out for that.
@Foxcanfixit2 жыл бұрын
Just don’t use Silicone or RTV, gas eats that stuff quick. And just a real thin layer of gasket sealer will do.
