I'm quite new to diving and I appreciate all of your time and efforts on creating these useful and entertaining videos. I like that your videos are direct to the subject indicated and I can tell they come from lots of experience. My question for this application is it necessary to have ditch able weight?

Great videos as always Achim..ISE is rapidly becoming the benchmark..a debated question for single tanks: Which size of wing you would suggest? Is a 17 liters (38 lbs) too oversize compared to the classical 30 lbs or is it still a feasible solution? Thank you so much for the constant effort

Hello Achim, great videos you make. I have question: ¿do you use these pockets on the back as ditchable weight? I guess you can reach them easily. And if you are wearing, let's say, a 7 or 7.5 semidry suit with undergarment and need 6 or 7 kilos or even more and you don't wear a belt, ¿isn't it a good idea to put all that weight in those pockets onto the bottle straps? If not, where is the place to carry the weight supposing you don't use a weight belt. ¿Is the belt not recommendable? Thank you.

Like very much your vids. What do you think about not using single tank adaptor? Using those two material “tubes”included in the wing? Thanks

Thank you Achim. Very informative from someone with so much experience. What is your opinion on the Super Cinch /quick release Tank Bands for open water diving. Much appreciated.

Great information as always. Would love to hear your thoughts on weight positions for cold water diving with steel tanks. Find that placing some weight to the front can help be more balanced to counter the pull of the steel tank.

Agree. I do not like to wear a w. belt and not a fan of the quick release pouch

Hey Achim, I just got my first BPW single tank setup from OMS and wonder about the weighting. I mostly dive in German freshwater. Backplate is Aluminium with padding and also 4 fixed Trimpouches, i wear drysuit with 300g undersuit, 12l steeltank. So far with my regular bcd (axiom) i took 12kg of weight. Can you make a suggestion how much weight I should approxemetly need in your opinion? Thanks beforehand!

What are your thoughts on cam band grips? Are they necessary? Mine really annoy me sometimes for numerous cases.

So if you load 3kg how do you position the pouches?
@drheaddamage4 жыл бұрын
I'd suspect he'd get 3 kg in total using 2x 1 kg weights, and 2x 0.5 kg weights..

Great movie but in that configuration (let's say 4x2kg) you are reducing the volume of your wing and you will not be able to fulfill that completely. I mean that the trim pockets are taking place from the both sides
@CoastalDevelopment4 жыл бұрын
good question / concern - but they dont
@bengybengy42604 жыл бұрын
@@CoastalDevelopment your movie is really helpful because I decided to move the weight directly on the backplate but your presented solution I have also taken into account. In my wing and the 15l tank there is really no space for that. Maybe with long 12 l tank it works better. Nevertheless I really like your super informative input-it really helps 👌

Thanks for your informative videos, I have the same rig setting with one small difference, the weight pockets are upside down so that I can ditch weight quickly in emergency situation

You should consider researching the balanced weighting strategy

You mentioned using a P weight if you needed more weight. This is the case for me as I use a dry suit with warm fleece undergarment and cannot yet afford a heavy steel tank. How do you attach a P weight on a singles rig without the bolts interfering with the tank?
@CoastalDevelopment6 жыл бұрын
same as on a double - PWeight goes INSIDE the Plate. V.Weight is for doubles only and goes BEHIND the plate between the tanks.

Two three kg seems too little. I dive with a shorty, 12L aluminum with 5.5kg in the Red Sea. We are the same build more or less. Seems too little to me. Never met anyone who dived with so little.
@twindivers6 жыл бұрын
Are you saying you can dive with a 5mm suit in fresh water and only add 1 kilo or is that without wetsuit?
@CoastalDevelopment6 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, yes 1 kg in fresh in the setup shown with a 5MM suit. in teh med 3 is comfortable.
@twindivers6 жыл бұрын
Thank for the reply. That just seems like very little weight with al80 most become 4lbs positive when empty

How do you sitch weights in an emergency?
@troypoe4 жыл бұрын
Waleed Zaghloul with a balanced rig the idea is that you have minimal weight so you can just swim up even in an emergency. The weight just keeps you close to neutral.

The safety trolls are going to have a field day with this -- no ditchable weight.

Balanced rig = no need for ditchable weight :)
@elibrin1236 жыл бұрын
I think that weights belt is bad and may be dangerous as people put all or most weights on it. Nevertheless, there are situations where some minimum of ditchable weight is required. You have full tank(s) and a faulty empty BC. With a new 5/7 mil wetsuit at 30m depth, you cannot inflate. Based on amount of weights you need to carry, some of it may need to be ditchable. How much? It is a trail process where you test your ability to ascent in described scenario. It can be argued that thick wetsuits, with high buoyancy variation, shouldn't be a part of the balanced rig concept. That would make sense.

I heard the argument of the need to have ditchable weights for cases of down current. What are your thoughts on it ?
@elibrin1236 жыл бұрын
Can't see a downside for having 1-2Kg (up to say 20% of weights) in two waist pockets on the harness.
