That turned out well, as a biker, its another type of small project I want to do in the winter months. I have a pair of big nuts but can't bring myself to weld them :). Anyway, another good vid and more inspiration, thanks, and again , thumbs up for your presentation-I'm an ex army instructor and tend to lose it when other YT presenters don't follow the auld EDI (Explanaishun, Demminstrayshun, Imitation) like you do. The chain following the petrol tank (gas tank to you ex colonials) shape is good, I'm thinking I could fill it in with sheet metal and put a logo on it mebbe.

When I decided to make one of these a couple years back it took me about 5 trips to goodwill to find enough silverware to match up close. I used a butter knife for the arrow and then welded a 1/4 bolt to the bottom of one foot and bolted it to a half a piece of walnut firewood for stability. Daughter liked it for Christmas that year, at least she led her old man to think she did.

I throw my bike chains in a fire to cook em clean before welding. The heat also colors it up a bit.
@BarbieTheWelder7 жыл бұрын
Dave Z great idea!! Thanks!
@davez41947 жыл бұрын
Have you ever noticed too that some of the welds will crack using bike chain? I think bike chain has high carbon content so it gets brittle at the weld. I found flux core mig seems to work better....maybe it cools slower cuz of the flux....and I burn it in a bit more than my usual art weld. I like using bike chain and have a good supply of used chain....Im a bike mechanic! LOL...Happy Welding!
@stevefriedlander70537 жыл бұрын
Dave Z I use my TIG for most smaller chain to avoid cracking.
@davez41947 жыл бұрын
Do you use filler rod or just fuse it? My problem is my chains are so dirty...even after I cook the grease out of them they don't tig very well...theres a lot of crap under the links...
@stevefriedlander70537 жыл бұрын
Dave Z depends on the link size. Smaller, fusion weld. Larger links I use filler. I soak them in grease remover then wash down with acetone.

This is awesome but I have one small concern for your safety... Your hair is very close to the fire and sparks and not only that but (I'm not certain) I think you pointed the welder towards yourself and welded parts together and I just want to make sure you don't hurt yourself so please be careful
