Thank you for this video. My belt was broken so I had not taken off the front panel until the replacement arrived. When I saw the tension pulley laying on the floor of the dryer with no loose screws with it. I was done until I saw this video. A cheap but effective design. All is working fine now.
@timjones76895 жыл бұрын
This was spot on! Good, clear instructions without a lot of commentary. My belt replacement went just as described.
@stannoll62484 жыл бұрын
Note: Several important steps were not mentioned in the video. 1. The grooves in the belt must face the drum of the dryer. 2. Carefully remove the lint screen filter screws. Why? If you should have the misfortune of dropping a screw down the opening for the lint screen -- you'll spend the next hour of your life removing parts to find the screw(s). 3. When removing the door panel to the dryer, it's important to be careful. You don't want to break off the tabs on the panel clips located at the bottom of the panel on the left and right of the front panel. If you gorilla grip the front door panel and try and yank it off the clips you might discover that you broke the clips and will need to replace them before the dryer will work again. The part is reasonably priced and easy to install, however, the wait to get the part in the mail is usually not an exciting time. 4. When you're replacing the belt -- watch so you don't trap your finger between the belt and the motor's pulley. 5. Removing and reinstalling the idler pulley requires you to properly clip the bottom part of the idler pulley into the bottom (base plate) of the dryer. It's super important you "practice" putting the idler in its proper position prior to reinstalling it. Lacing the belt through the dryer pulley while trying to loop it around the motor pulley isn't as easy as it might look. You want to remember practice makes perfect. Lacing the pulley is a "finer art" than you might first imagine. 6. The video showed the technician placing the vent screws on top of the dryer. I recommend you place the screws in a safe place (your pocket, in a coffee cup, or on a table near the dryer). The same goes for the two cabinet screws. If you drop any of these screws you'll wish you followed this tip. When you replace the screws -- be super-duper careful to NOT drop a screw. Why? If you drop a cabinet screw -- at the very least you'll have to remove the front of the dryer cabinet to find it. If you drop a screw while securing the vent opening to the top of the dryer cabinet -- you might have to take the dryer apart to find the screw. If you follow these simple, additional recommendations the chances are you'll have a successful repair.

Stan, nice to add some info. But I'm pretty sure that falls under the category of 'common sense'. Not knocking you or your plethora of knowledge. This was an informative video that helped someone like me, who has never worked on a dryer in my life, to easily replace a broken belt.

@@TrailingSkies27 You are right. It's self-explanatory to most people. The 341241 belt is by far and away one of the easier belts to change. I've looked at some of the newer appliances and it might help to be a mechanical engineer.

Very clear instructions. Thanks. Your's is the only video showing a tensioner without a roller which is what my Whirlpool has. The tensioner popped off when I slipped the pulley off the motor shaft and I couldn't figure out where it attached. Your video cleared that up for me. I had just replaced the gas hose with one having a safety valve in it and the dryer was not igniting. It was full of lint in the bottom. Removed the lint and $30 in coins from the bottom, checked the igniter and gas coil impedances - no open circuits. Tested it with the drum removed - lit and worked fine. Put the dryer back together and it is still working fine. The video made it much simpler to disassemble and re-assemble the dryer..

Keith Kitchin, You do not have the reply feature on so I cannot reply to your post. There are 2 sets of holes in the floor one of them line up better with the motor pulley. This was very helpful. One thing not mentioned that you want to watch for is to make sure the rubber side of the belt is in contact with the drum. Mine came out of the bag with the rubber side facing outward and I ended up installing it that way. Needless to say, the drum still didn't spin. I would also suggest manually turning the drum before putting everything back together. It turns out that with then new belt installed and the tensioner in the left slot on the base frame, the top of the tensioner was rubbing on the drum and making an awful racket. Moving the tensioner to the right-most slot took care of the problem.

If my motor works with the belt off but not when it is on, do I need to replace the belt or could there be another reason the motor won’t turn the drum? It recently was stuck and with a cleaning and some grease it worked fine for a few months. Now it is stuck again but doesn’t seem dirty and as mentioned, rotates fine without the belt attached.

Great directions! But the only reason I had to check it out, was to see how the idler was set up. Your logo hides how it goes in to the base, but by the direction of the upper part, I was easily able to figure it out. BTW, I don't know how you could do that with gloves one, it's tough enough to finangle it without any on.
