Thank you so much for demonstrating how to wield twin swords. I'm a writer and have made a character that wields twin swords, and have been doing a lot of research into writing how he fights. This video is very helpful.

This is a fine beginning training practice, both for movement, but also for getting used to holding two swords and moving them independently, but you would never fight with dual swords like this in reality, it's too open and completely misses all the advantages that 2 swords give you, while suffering all the drawbacks
@cadethumann8605
@cadethumann8605 7 жыл бұрын
Eoin Reilly Then address the issues. Come up with various techniques and strategies (having a variety can throw off an opponent when you switch tactics). For instance, one blade can be used to defend while the other can attack. Unlike a sword and shield, you can switch the roles the blades would have (one moment the right is for attacking while the left defends and then the next moment the left attacks while the right defends) Mind you, I am not a big fan of dual wielding as I prefer one sword or sword and shield. However, I would like sword ideas to be experimented with and expanded upon. I especially like it when ideas considered impractical are turned effective. Besides, where's the fun of not experimenting?

It depends on the attacks. In general, there are basic three defense techinques - Cauldron Lifting Block, Whirlwind Block, and Leash Block. All can be applied to Twin Swords.

Dual swords are very limited in the amount of ways you can use them without cutting yourself into pieces so most of MAs dealing with them default to the few basic movesets. European double sidesword and Persian double shamshir come to mind. Inb4 Japanese niten ichi Ryu doesn't count since it uses blades of different length making it one side dominant and avoiding the limitations of two long weapons
@bumbykitty

Why is it that in this technique, your foot moves before the hand and sword?
@BokKyuChoi
@BokKyuChoi 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. You pointed a good thing. Both movements of hands (swords) and legs should match each other. In the double sword's movement here you have two strikes consecutively with one step so you have to be aware of how to match, ie. with the first strike or the second strike. Anyway, in this video clip, I focused on the delivery of the hand movements. Thank you again for your comment.

@BokKyuChoi 6 жыл бұрын
ctaukus The handle that I am using is 17cm long and the blade is 62cm. Most swords in the market don’t seem to fit the standard of Korean classical sword. You’d better find a manufacturer who can make your own request. We outsource it directly from Korea. Wooden swords are fine for personal practice. Do is a saber (single edged) and geom is a sword (double edged).

I honestly don’t know why a lot more people don’t to the hand over hand type technique that he shows here In this video. You can even do the same thing cutting upwards. If done correctly it obviously increases the speed of your strikes faster than most people will be able to with a single sword. Also it seems one could simultaneously parry with one sword while attacking with the other or even attack with both at the same time although that may leave an opening. A lot of HEMA instructors love to say how in effective duel wielding swords is and how it gives no advantage but often when I see them demonstrate their duel wielding techniques they seem very limited they almost seem to try to prove their point instead of actually trying to be effective with the swords. That and this video as well as some other Sabre wielding martial arts I’ve seen seem to have some pretty legitimately useful techniques for duel wielding that would hold up in a sword fight. Not a sword fighting expert talking here but just my observations.

The whole point of two weapons is to use them BOTH at once. This...whatever the hell it is you are doing...is going to get you killed especially if your opponent also has two weapons. You NEVER put your weapon BEHIND your body. In a fight you need to be crouched with your weapons tight to your body, throwing out strikes with both weapons at once. You are not using two weapons. All you are doing is holding two weapons and using them one at a time.
@BokKyuChoi

Joe Bloggs Thank you for your comments. I think your remarks are far beyond this level. There are many different layers between the basics and real applications. I shared a very basic technic of double sabers which helps your foot work, coordination, balance, etc. when wielding two sabers. From here you can build up inter-mediate, advanced techniques and then you can consider a combat.

i dont get it, novadays you can just click a button and someone is dead with a bullet in his head, why spend any time and effort to master a deadly weapon only to show it off? it may be reasonable to you reading this. For me it makes no sense, at the end every weapon is made to kill

my only guess is wakizashi. But the hilt seems to be a bit shorter and a bit different from the traditional Japanese style so I can be totally wrong here

It's a particular type of Hwando designed for dual wielding. It's not a wakizashi - it's bigger. Here's the Japanese equivalent for it, a popular type of uchigatana/katana during the 16th century: www.sho-shin.com/katteuchi.html
