Great tips. Played Duchy against the Alliance and Eyrie last night. Alliance are a HUGE thorn in the side if their sympathy gets in your way. Giving up precious cards slows down the moles so much!

@@LordoftheBoard Alliance was a newer player, and was slowed enough early that they didn't see that big scary swing round. Duchy won, but we actually made the same mistake as you with Mayor-Lords. Without that mistake, Eyrie would have won on their next action with some stellar Charismatic play with no turmoils

For some reason this faction started vibing with me once I started thinking of myself as just another noble you're no commander just a part of the council. Consider that mindset this may be your project, but you can't do it alone getting a few early risky squires even if you lose them can often put you in a position to win the game.

They can be played either defensively (focus on markets, turtle up in a couple clearings, and get VP from the Lord's abilities) or offensively (focus on citadels, don't worry about defending your buildings that much, and attack anywhere you can). The offensive strategy is better when the Lizards are in the game, because defending with large numbers of warriors can't stop your buildings from being Sanctified.

Use tunnels to pop up, attack, then retreat to burrow. More of pop up and annoy style like the woodland alliance

Hello, i have 2 questions about that faction. 1) does the action "dig" trigger the effect of the sympathy token? 2) does the squires that allows to build if u reveal a card, allows u,for example, to build in a red clearing that u control by revealing a yellow card?

Answers! 1. It would trigger outrage as you are moving the moles into that clearing with a sympathy token. 2. Yes that is exactly how it works! :)

With the dig you can only bring out 4. But a standard move action you can bring out however many :)

Owen Schuler hey Owen! Me and my wife have been playing duchy + corvids + the clockwork expansions Mechanical Marquise and it has been great. But you can also do the duchy and Marquise only which was fun! And Duchy and eyrie which was hard on the eyrie but fun as well!

It’s a fortress on the pass. It’s used on the mountain map that comes with the expansion. If I remember correctly, whichever faction rules the pass clearing gets that piece and they score one extra VP per turn until they no longer rule that clearing.

Great vid! I like the mole’s gameplay but they’re a little harder to get “politically”, as in what they’re supposed to represent. I think they’re supposed to be a riff on US intervention in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan. So the Duchy isn’t totally focused on the War to start and you have to convince ministers to pay attention, and they’ll wash their hands of any messes that happen. Meanwhile the tunnels work like airports that can dump a bunch of troops anywhere on the map and allow you to quickly move between them. It’s not as pure as “a rebellion” or “an empire” but it has a distinct character

I think they're just meant to represent a generic invading state from the outside. This would make them similar to the Eyrie, in the sense that the game begins with them at the start of their invasion. However, whereas the Eyrie are"returning" to the Forest to retake it, the Moles are just annexing new territory.

Try and take out mole warriors consistently - attack low- or undefended buildings. But taking out pieces is the best thing you can do.

I don’t fully agree. They have a ton of power yes! But they are like a glass tower. If people start targeting their buildings their entire ecosystem can fall really quickly. They are very fun and I can see how they could be seen as very powerful!

@@LordoftheBoard maybe... if they got ganged up on by 3+ factions. But any semi experienced player is going to protect any clearing with a building with at least 5 moles. And since they can recruit, score (via sway), and craft so easily, they really don't have to be offensive...

A Stod true. I have found that the strike on them must be as early as possible. Before they get their engine running cause yes it can be very hard to stop once they get going. Corvids can pose a problem being nimble and I’ve seen Lizards able to cause problems too. Vagabond if focusing on Infamy can be a good counter as well. The new Harrier people able to jump to any location is great for that. We have had some games with the moles feeling unstoppable so I get you. I would have to play against them and with them more to call them OP. Cause in our games they haven’t won every game.

@@LordoftheBoard You make some good points with the other factions. I should amend my original statement to say they are OP in 2 player against cats. In about 10 plays moles are 10-0. Cats just don't have enough actions to battle them early and protect their own buildings late. What can cats do to have any chance in 2p against moles?

A Stod well you said it just right, not enough actions is the problem. Using bird cards for extra actions would be good as well as cards that give you extra move or battle actions like Better Burrow Bank or Eyrie Menagerie. Pretty much any card that gives you basic actions to use. Also with the cats I spend usually 2 marches the first turn to position and clump a few cats around the moles to ensure they can’t expand and must fight to leave their corner or tunnel. Then once I have secured an early hold on positioning I transition into getting cats then try to craft cards early to mid game in time to have enough actions to compete late game against them.

This is probably the worst faction. They are slow to set up and can be devastated easily.

They can be very hard. I have found they are heavily decided by card draw. You need a combat advantage in order to maintain the glass tower. They truly do start to just shoot up in VP once you get the engine rolling crafting plus ministers. I am a big fan of them. They are mechanically similar to Duchy whereas they operate more so of the Eyrie
