"You can't guarantee Thick Club" You get Thief early in the game and can get any held item available. Most of the type held items are available at some point (some are only in Victory Road; can't get Poison Fang or Soft Sand depending on your game, and can't get Silk Scarf, Metal Coat, Dragon Fang (without randomly catching Dragonair with it in Safari Zone)). But things like Thick Club, TwistedSpoon, Sharp Beak, Magnet, Spell Tag, NeverMeltIce, and Hard Stone are all available with Thief, and could be potentially helpful. (Mystic Water/Miracle Seed/Charcoal are in the game corner, too, and could be potentially helpful as well)

But Cubone is already a rare encounter so think how obnoxious it is to even find a Cubone just to use Thief
@GibstackАй бұрын
@shawngallagher8764 if you get cubone and actually want to use it then you're gonna go for it. Or just ignore it entirely, lol
@lilyanon5538Ай бұрын
Thick Club is *obnoxiously* difficult to get in Tower, and the only other place to find wild Cubone and Marowak holding it is in Sevault Canyon-basically at the end of the postgame. Take Cubone’s encounter rate-already 9-10%-you’ll be almost-guaranteeing Gastly or Haunter in an average nuzlocke, even if you try to repel-manip to the top floors. Cubone’s level ranges overlap with Gastly’s. Then, *of* those Cubone encounters, there’s a 5% chance one has a Thick Club. If that isn’t enough-Compoundeyes only gets its field effect to boost item drops from wild mons in Emerald-which released months *after* FRLG. I learned that the hard way after hours of trying to farm CE Butterfree with Thief. Trying to get that 0.45% Cubone holding Thick Club is plain torture-cartridge or not.
@GibstackАй бұрын
@lilyanon5538 Either cheat it in, grind it, or don't use it. But I was originally talking about when he said "thick club isn't guaranteed" which just doesn't make sense in the context of the project he's doing.
@lilyanon5538Ай бұрын
@@GibstackI guess it depends on how seriously he takes the “average FRLG nuzlocke experience” metric. I know he allows candies to skip grinding and EVs, but he also acknowledges runs on cartridge or those that don’t hack in items. I know Jan has stated before that he’s not too inclined to weigh Pokémon encounter % into tiering, so I understand that item availability may not matter as much-it’s just that a very rare, stat-doubling item feels distinct enough to warrant a mention or additional scrutiny on “average” runs. Would be curious see TC Marowak for Erika thru E4.

I'm telling you Butterfree with compound eyes, sleep powder, and dream eater is disgusting. It doesn't matter that it isn't stab and butterfree genuinely has pretty decent stats, it's not like everything has max stats like on showdown. Dream Eater is a 100 base power psychic move and it also learns psybeam/psychic. Psychic type in kanto is nuts and butterfree is the only consistent dream eater user because it will almost never miss it's sleep move
@GibstackАй бұрын
I just realized you can set this up after getting Cut and that's kinda insane Would solo Erika, Koga, and Giovanni easily (as long as you don't miss); anything else seems risky but can still put in work

19:53 Raichu with Secret Power (maybe a roll) or Strength (definitely kills) over Brick Break, those would work against Alakazam there after calm mind -- Strength also just usually does more damage anyway due to the Attack badge boost Kadabra also definitely dies to Strength/Secret Power (Thunderbolt can be a roll on Kadabra), and Mr. Mime is also favorable with Secret Power instead of Thunderbolt

Starved Nuzlocke: All pokemon have minimum IVs and bad nature No TMs, Level up movesets only No Badge boost in applicable games What else?
@ferrisffalcisАй бұрын
@snakexpert552 My idea was more along the lines of "assume worst possible encounter RNG whenever it applies, outside of in combat rolls", so I'm not sure I see the point in restricting items and such, since those are certainties.
@SeveralGhostАй бұрын
@@ferrisffalcisthat's basically a smallant challenge, something like "Pokemon but if the worst can happen it does", all rng was set to the worst outcome. Every hit crits with max rolls, all of your moves miss if possible and deal minimum damage rolls. Same bad stats.

@@SeveralGhost Yeah, Smant has done it, but the always missing moves that aren't guaranteed like Swift makes it a very niche puzzle solution, vs a garbage green/total trashlocke type experience.

@jacobmcglue5996Ай бұрын
Just finished a fire red nuzlocke, Sunny Day/psychic/leech seed/Solar beam exeggutor sweeps Bruno and actually beat Gary's Gyrados. If you do the island side quest, you can get an almost guaranteed exeggcute since most of the other mons in berry forest are early game encounters. Exeggutor had 6 frags, hitmonlee had 5, pidgeot had 1, snorlax 1, Charizard 6, and Lapras 7. Literally only brought pidgeot in case of Gengar double team shenanigans, which is the only mon it killed. I would have brought Shockwave electrode instead, but he died while I was speeding through a rival battle.

@ShinyNoctowl-k8yАй бұрын
I actually think Butterfree is kinda cracked in this game and it definitely can solo Koga. Guaranteed Compound-Eyes Sleep Powder is almost a sure hit (97.5%) then you can get Dream Eater from Viridian Tutor as soon as you get Cut (before Koga.) Even if you miss a Sleep Powder you're likely to not die unless hit by a Rock type move then Dream Eater just fully heals you. Also you can get Grimer and Koffing in Celadon City by Surfing/Fishing.
