Always great vids and thank you. Can you please make a video on entering and exiting surf conditions. I mean not a 30 minute talk about it, but an actual video with voice over showing the actual technique. That would be most Mahalo! 🤙
@blueplanetsurf2 жыл бұрын
Hi Corvus, here in Hawaii we get mostly reef breaks that break further out and there is usually not much shore break to deal with, so getting into the water is generally pretty easy. Are you at a spot with big shore break? I would say avoid spots with big shore break until you are very proficient in smoother waters. Make sure to keep the foil behind you, keep the foil away from the wing and try to get to deep enough water quickly so you can put the foil in the water.

Perfect timing. Thinking of taking my swing 5m out in the surf for the first time Tomorrow. I’m apprehensive with the beach break though, not sure if I’m ready to juggle all three (wing, sup, foil). May stick to the river for now haha. Last session I was nailing sequential gybes for the first time. Can’t wait to get to a smaller board, like you mentioned. Hoping my corky prone board will work down the road.

Great, just take it one step at a time, start by riding little wind swells first while luffing the wing.

Great video, as always. Can you do a first timer video for wing surfing like you did for foiling behind a boat? There's very few videos of beginners and the stages they go through. I think it would be of great benefit, at least for me!

Robert, very use full info for beginners like me... what is the minimum wind you can go out with your standard foil and 5 mts wing? Thanks!!

Glad you like it. A 5M wing works well in as little as 10-15 knots of steady wind once you learn to pump up on the foil. Ozone has a good wind range chart on this page: ozonekites.com/products/wings/wasp-v1/

I've been finding that when I wing foil with my small tail wing that I have a harder time getting upwind. I've been trying my 1600 front with the 320 rear. Can you educate is on tail wing choices and what affects the tail has in total
@blueplanetsurf5 жыл бұрын
A big front wing will feel more balanced with a bigger tail wing. A smaller tail wing will be looser, easier to turn and faster due to less drag but you have to compensate with more back foot pressure since it creates less downward force in the back to balance out the front wing. A big front and tail wing goes upwind well because you can pinch upwind at a relatively low speed. With less lift you have to maintain more speed so depending on the wind it can be harder to go upwind at a steep angle. I talk about tail wings, angle of incidence and fuselage length in this video as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ6kfpeJr8uLbck

what is the wt of each rider and what size board they are using, what is the wing size,fuselage length, mask ht, foil size.I just want to make sure I buy the right equipment for my learning phase. Right now I have a 4m duotone wing and is new at Wing foiling. I will be starting out with a 7’6 or 8’ Sup foil board and work my way down, I was 225 lbs but with my diet I’m down to 215 and my goal is to get down to 190-195 lbs. Wing foiling is new for me in the Bay area northern Calif so it will be test riding time at a lake or Santa Cruz or inside the Bay area near Redwood shores or Alameda area. Thanks for your great video and tips. I use to live and surf on the Big Island, Honolii, Bay Front, Black Sand Beach, and Kona side before moving to the Bay area San Jose due to better jobs but I still surf at Santa Cruz area or Bay area. Also waiting for the efoil boards to come down in price “electric motor foil boards"

Hey great info. Whats the best way to get back shore if the wind dies and the swell is big? Where wouod u hold the wing whilst paddling back in? Thabks dave
@blueplanetsurf4 жыл бұрын
You just paddle the board prone and tow the wing behind you. It’s easier if the wing leash is attached to a waist leash. You could deflate and roll up the wing if you are worried about damaging it in the impact zone. Best not to go out in big waves if it looks like the wind might die.

I'm curious about wing foiling in the San Diego area. Are there specifics for wind direction and speed?
@blueplanetsurf5 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with spots in the SD area, look for spots that kitesurfers and windsurfers like with steady wind. You will find a good wind range chart on the Ozone Wasp website: ozonekites.com/products/wings/wasp-v1/

Am I correct in thinking that the wind is side-shore in this video (at least blowing perpendicular to the direction that the wave is traveling)?
@blueplanetsurf4 жыл бұрын
Yes, correct, the wind is blowing side -shore or side-offshore in this video which makes it easier to ride the wave in both directions.

Hi Robert. Love your vids! I'm currently 280lbs but expect to get back to 240 now I'm free of illness. Can I reasonably expect to get foiling in 12-15 knots on flat water at 240? If not, what weight do I need to hit please? With love, Ken
@blueplanetsurf4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, thanks for the comment and glad you like the videos. Those are good goals you have and good to hear you overcame the illness. For me, when the wind is too light for a 5m wing, I prefer going SUP foiling and wait for more wind. With a big enough wing and foil you should be able to do it but why not go out when its blowing 15-20 knots and make it easier and more fun? I would say don’t worry too much about the weight, just do the sports you enjoy and you will get back in shape and have fun at the same time. All the best to you my friend💪🤙🏼

@@blueplanetsurf Thanks so much! I ask about low wind because that is what we get where I live. I get from your reply that it's not really going to happen at those wind speeds and I accept that. With love, Ken

@@kenstephens2955 it's definitely possible to wing foil in light, steady winds with the right equipment (big wing and foil), at your weight. It will just easier to learn on windier days when you don't have to use a huge wing.
