For some reason, I just can't seem to keep Monarda. My soil is waterlogged in winter so this year I bought another one thinking I'd keep it in its pot. It was lovely until I re-potted it as it looked pot bound. It didn't seem to like the move. Paul and Andrew say the heads look like Fraggle Rock characters and they do.

Here in eastern PA our Monarda runs wild. I don’t know how to contain it. I literallly pull out so much surface roots and when I toss them into the wooded area adjoining my pollinator garden they root and keep going. I would not know how to contain them in my perennial gardens. Do you have any ideas?

Oh wow! I guess the bees love it tho. I'm not sure how to go about it... they do spread by rhizomes and can self-seed quite easily... so I guess patience and hard work will get them. Have you checked with your local extension office? (county extension offices.. where they have agriculture experts that can help)
