How to wipe files, folders and empty space in Windows with sdelete

Permanently wipe data on your Windows PC using sdelete command from Sysinternals so no one can recover them.
Warning! sdelete is very powerful and if you misuse it you might loose data. It doesn't ask for confirmation, it just wipes data. Use it carefully and proceed with the instructions in this video at your own risk. We are not responsible for any data loss or other damages that may occur.
You can interrupt sdelete by pressing ctrl + c on your keyboard

@KST - EXCELLENT information!!! 👍👍👍Is there a way to run it in/with the recycle bin(command)(as in when it's chucked into the recycle bin, it's really gone)? And how is this tool/utility different from low-level formatting?

Shredding data will write random numbers in place of the deleted data whereas low level formatting will only delete the data. So shredding is more secure. I don't think you can include it automatically in the Recycle Bin

Sir thank you for this video. I have one question please. I have in windows 10 6hdd 8tb each in parity mode so total 40tb (5 for data and 1 can fail) and I read in the documentation of sdelete about the command ( - z ) and the description about the - z is : Zero free space (good for virtual disk optimization). My problem in my D drive wich is those 6 x8tb in parity mode for my media library is that even if I delete 1 terabyte of data and have the recycle bin empty I didn't get that free space back as empty so I was wondering if give that command sdelete - z d: it will be the correct or sdelete -c d:? I really need your opinion on that. Thank you again sir for this very helpful video ❤

Thanks for this. How many 'passes' is standard? I know the default is 1, but someone told me to do 7. I'm not sure where they got this number from...

Each organism has its own standards, usually, 3 passes are sufficient with the last pass being a pattern of 0 and 1. Here are some standards that I found on compucycle.com: "1- HMG Infosec Standard 5: Like the DoD 5220.22-M, the IS5 (or “CESG standard”) is the British government standard that calls for either degaussing, a one-pass or three-pass overwrite or physical destruction. Secure Erase-a popular method of using firmware found on SATA- or PATA-type drives-is not approved. 2- BSI-GS: Used by the German Federal Office for Information Security, this protocol features one overwriting pass with random data after removing hidden drives. 3- Air Force System Security Instruction 8580: The latest Air Force standard requires two pseudo-random overwrites, followed by an overwrite with a set pattern of ones and zeros. At least 1% of the final overwritten data must be visually inspected to guarantee overwriting success. 4- Navy Staff Office Publication (NAVSO P-5239-26): Also a three-pass standard, the Navy uses two predetermined characters than a random character and verifies them at the end of the process."
