So I jumped ahead one step & checked what the current setting was. It was set at 1500, so that was too big. How did that number get originally setup incorrectly, by the router maybe? SO, I tried to set it to 1495 w/the word WiFi within the parenthesis' as you showed. It told me the syntax was wrong. After 4-5 tries I typed in Wireless Network Connection instead and it processed further than it previously had telling me the parameters, but that the syntax was still incorrect. Bummer. There's one more thing you can do to speed up your computer. Every browser, and most large programs, like Microsoft Office, use a software program to update the application, keeping it fresh and exciting. However, many updating programs run every hour of every day, regardless of whether there is an update. The programs are started by the Window scheduler. Simply and meticulously go through every entry looking for these hourly cycle hogs and change the setting to a once-a-day trigger. The browsers and large programs will still update to the latest version, but without interfering with your TV time, games, or actual work.

DO NOT DO THIS. There's a disk cleanup feature that achieves the same thing safely and avoids deleting temp files that are currently in use, for example. Open an explorer window (Win-E) Navigate to "This PC" Right-click on your system disk (usually C:) and select "Properties" Hit the "Disk cleanup" button in the "General" tab of the window that appears A new window appears. Hit the "Clean up system files" button. Disk cleanup goes away and thinks for a few seconds and shows a new version of the "Disk clean-up" window that includes more options. Hit "OK". This will delete all the unneeded crud far more safely than digging around in the file system yourself.

I just saw the video and to me it seems all the actions he describes are perfectly safe. Temporary files that are in use currently cannot be removed anyway and a popup will show so you can skip them. To me, cleaning out the prefetch folder and clearing the DNS cache don't seem like a way to regain much disk space. I would skip these steps personally. However I do agree with you the disk cleanup utility is the fastest and easiest way to reclaim most disk space. This is the only method I use but also sometimes I clear out the Softwaredistribution\Download folder. Windows update will re-download these files anyway. Btw, the disk cleanup utility is also mentioned in the video.

It's a shame that you are promoting System Mechanic. Its publisher uses misleading advertising to promote it. In addition, they try to con you into renewing your subscription in order to upgrade to the latest versions. However, if you have an active subscription, you don't need to pay anything to upgrade. Also be aware that the version that includes an antivirus (System Mechanic Ultimate Defense), fails miserably at detecting malware. It is one the worst antiviruses. All big name antiviruses, including Microsoft/Windows Defender, do much better at protecting against malware. On a separate note, there's no need to ever delete prefetch files. All it does is slow performance.

However, there was one area that didn't see a performance boost: internet speed. Iolo claims that System Mechanic can speed up your PC's internet connection via its NetBooster feature, but I didn't see a significant improvement that couldn't be explained by normal fluctuations when I ran Speedtest by Ookla.
@dchubworldsharenetwork Жыл бұрын
That's just what it's called sometimes. If you ordered 100/100 internet speed from your ISP operator, you will have that speed and programs cannot change that speed. Internet speed is set for your location / username by your ISP Operator and has nothing to do with your computer or devices. Programs can change how the webpage opens, how the browser will use the Internet connection, ping optimization etc. If you ordered Internet Speed 100/100 and the Speed Test shows only 90/80, yes, it is possible that such optimizations can help. When the Internet is not in use! Of course Speed Test is done like this. 1) Turn off all devices from the modem (Wi-Fi and Cables) When all devices are turned off... 2) Turn off the modem for at least 30 seconds ( power supply from the wall ). A) Also restart your computer 3) Wait for the computer to boot into the OS and the modem to establish an Internet connection ( Lights on the modem ). 4) Now connect the computer and the modem with a cable. !Do not connect other devices! 5) Once your computer is connected to the Internet, open the Speed Test website and select your ISP Operator for the speed test. Speedtest by Ookla will definitely have your ISP listed. This is the best internet speed test website as server distance is very important for accurate measurement. If the internet speed is not the same as the one you ordered or almost the same, do the same test later or next day and if the difference is still very large, call your ISP operator. You can try speed test on another computer to be sure. A cable connection is required for accurate measurement. If you cannot change the server, the internet speed test website is useless because the measurement will not be accurate.

I'm only 30 seconds into a video for saving space and the first piece of advice is to recreate a system restore point (effectively a copy of your windows installation directory) which are notorious for consuming drive space! He then proceeds to pointlessly explain how to delete lots of windows files which can be cleaned in a matter of seconds with most freeware drive cleaning apps and tries to sell one. A true IT pro would always recommend freeware in this instance, why should someone pay for something which can be done as well for free? Modern SSD and NVME support a function called TRIM. The purpose of this function is to optimise the drive to put the most frequently accessed files together at the start of the drive(fastest point of the drive). This is why an SSD or NVME should always have 25% or more space free(this would have been nice to include), it needs to swap files around and without the space cannot do it quickly enough, if your old enough or still use HDD think defragmentation just on the fly with prioritisation. Prefetch also makes use of this space, so if you do the same tasks over and over again, I would not recommend delete prefetch too much.
@kamolhengkiatisak15272 жыл бұрын
I allocate 1gb as ramdisk and change cache/temp variable to Z:\ ramdisk. Once shut down, all cache/temp files are automatically deleted. Furthermore, it saves SSD life a little as all these files are not written on SSD and it also makes browser run faster when it needs to access cache files.

I notice that, more and more, you point to empty space in your videos at the end, space which should offer a link to another video(s). What gives?

I'm having a severe attack of Norton/McAfee bloatware phony virus alerts and pester screens to buy the product. To do anything about it I need to log in as administrator. I want to delete the entire Norton directory in Program files, but I need to be admin. I've followed all the directions I can find, but so far no luck logging in as admin. can you help?

Do they sell non-counterfeit Samsng NIB SSDs where you are at? I cant believe but Serial is 1digit off from box vs. chip from a recent purchase. BIOS reads but Win OS nope.

I was looking forward to performing all these tasks (which I did) and seeing my memory free up, because my PC is now so slow. Before I started the memory use was 2.6/6.9 GB (38%). After doing all the tasks the memory is 2.5/6.9 GB (36%). So if all that failed, do I now need a brand new PC? Love your stuff Liron but this did not work for my PC, but maybe it is now too old. Please help :)

Can we do this same procedure on Windows 7? And my Windows 7 lap top is 32 bit. Does this mean that I can't use the system mechanics app?? Thank you.
@WalterKnox2 жыл бұрын
if you are worried about junk files, but have Windows 10 or 11, you need to just delete the whole entire operating system and install something else. Anything after windows 10 is a garbage file in itself.
