How to Wire a Bow Light to a 2-Position Toggle Switch

I appreciate you brother you really showed and explained for amateurs like me how to do this. You worded everything word by word and explained it I’m dyslexic and have a very hard time with reading thing. I need to see to learn. I just wired my whole boat up and I got so excited that I learned how to do this that I put so many lights on my boat that when people see me on the water they’re going to think I’m an angel or a star in the sky that fell down loool. Great video. Do you have a video on running wiring from rotary switch as dash to rocker switch at bow. The rotary switch at the bow of my boat has never worked. I want to run wires to it.

I noticed when you used two disconnectors for the red cable for the bow light I understand, but does that other quick disconnect wire have to be a positive wire like copper or a negative like aluminum? My switch has a copper side and aluminum side that needs to match.

Great video. I noticed you did not use a fuse in this circuit. Is there a reason no fuse is needed? *EDIT* I think I figured it out: The light bulb acts as its own fuse

If the circuit is not overcurrent protected at the switchboard then a separate fuse will need to be added for that circuit. Per ABYC: Each ungrounded conductor of a branch circuit shall be provided with overcurrent protection at the point of connection to the main switchboard unless the main circuit breaker or fuse provides such protection.

If you needed a fuse, would you put it between the light and the switch or between the battery and the switch?

The ABYC recommends placing the fuse as close to the power source as possible. For specific wiring questions, please contact your local marine mechanic or electrician.

Hey man Im looking to do this same wiring in my car for an LED light with a kill switch on the dash I was going to fuse tap into an ignition live (accessory port) so the lights come on with the turn of a key but also have a killswitch to turn them off if desired whilst car is running. Fuse Tap > Positive wire > Kill switch > Positive wire > LED Light > Negative wire > Ground Eyelet to metal chasis Or would I put the Killswitch on the negative wire side ? (I dont want a constant power to the LED with my understanding having the killswitch on the ground side would still have the LED running hot with the positive going through it ending further down the line at the kilswitch negative) I hope this makes sense im trying to get my head around this wiring carry on

Great video but you need to clearly explain that the black ground wire goes to the negative terminal of the battery. You only say that the 'ground is connected to the battery'. It is important for beginners that you explain that ground/black/negative goes to the negative terminal and positive/red goes from the light to the switch and then on to the positive terminal.
