Find an empty port in your fuse box that becomes live when you switch the ignition on.

I use this style solenoid to do exactly what you're talking about and I burned three of them old and they told me at Napa that these are only meant to go on for a few seconds not continuous

You need to buy a continuous duty solenoid. Be sure that is what you ask for if you buy one at an auto parts store or enter continuous duty if you search for one on line.

hi the video is great but i am a newbie with them, how would i wire a relay for the max trac dual compressor. with a pressure switch? The present wiring/relay/PCB is dodgy so going to cut it off and just use a continuous relay and pressure switch. I believe has positive direct to motor and the present relays are on the negative side. If there is a link to more info that would be great. thanks again

For a relay it should be: pin 85 to ground, pin 30 to b+ / battery positive on your battery, 86 to your switch or ignition source you’re using to turn the relay on, and 87 to whatever you’re turning on IE lights, amps, horns, compressors, etc

Thanks for posting your videos, I've got a Cole Hersee 24063-BX solenoid. Trying to set up a 2nd battery in a 1987 gmc to run an inverter to power a hand held hammer drill. Can you recommend a wiring scheme? Thanks in any event.

Run primary battery to first large stud on the solenoid. Second large stud to the secondary battery. Use your normal ignition source for turn on. When the key is in the on position it’ll transfer power from the first battery to the second battery.

2 gauge wire is adequate. Use a 350-400a fuse

I'm putting one in a golf cart. I bought a new solenoid and forgot how to rewire. The new solenoids main terminals aren't mark "input" or "output". How do do I know which large terminal gets the positive cable from the battery and which is output to the motor?.. thanks in advance

Are the holes on the solenoid that bolt to the fender ground? Or is the back plate of the starter solenoid ground? I have a 88 mustang gt and I want to know how these solenoids ground.

They ground by bolting them to the frame.Yhe entire bottom plate is technically your ground connection. If you are using it for an off-brand purpose, you would want to wire the bottom plate using one of those two mounting points to a ground connection somewhere.

Im trying a ford sw-3 solinoid to power my motor controller for my rc mower. I have 10ga to carry 30amps if needed. I have it working so when the switch is on I hear the click and controller powers on. I also notice the solinoid heats up. Have concerns it might get too hot.

Solenoids have a small coil that passes the current, it’s not abnormal for them to get warm. Over 100 degrees warm

I’ve been wanting to do this with 2 480a compressors. If I were to run 2 of these, can I run 2 wires off the alternator ( one to each relay obviously) I’m not the smartest when it comes to wiring so bear with me.

480 amps? Or that’s just the model number? You can daisy chain the inputs together, and the same turn in source for both yes. Just use wire rated for the load / amperage draw of the accessory, and the solenoid needs to be capable of it as well.

Connect the switched output of the starter button to the starter solenoid. Make sure your starter button or key switch or whatever you’re using also engages whatever else is required for running though!

Yes, but a relay is adequate for a standard horn. If you’re running an air horn / compressor than yes I’d recommend this over a relay
