I think u get the wrong point about SPD need over current protection device (MCB or fuse). It is to isolate the SPD from the DB system if SPD fail, fault or damage. So you need an extract MCB or fuse as over current protection to connect between the Main MCB and the SPD, not directly connect the SPD to the main 63A MCB. Actually in current situation over current fuse disconnector is prefer than MCB, because you don't want the MCB in between SPD and Main MCB trip during lightning strike , you want the SPD to arrest the lightning to channel it to the ground, so fuse disconnector is prefer, that is why among all the SPD catalogue they normally emphasis fuse disconnector before SPD, not an MCB.

I'm a DIY'er and have always had a preference for building a DB Board from left to right as you show. It's like reading 😀. However I see in some standards that Neutral should always (understandably) be on the "outside". So, a Main Switch with "L" and then "N" on the right, should always be mounted on the right of the DB board. What is the ruling in SA?

And I've seen that some or most SPD they don't specify the current, say for example I want to use 63 amps how will I know that it is 63 amps. And also how long can a SPD run before damaged.

Some double poles SPD they connect live and neutral on incoming power then earth on neutral side of outgoing power. Some they put live on both incoming power then earth on outgoing power, what's the difference. And also comparing it with single pole SPD.

Hi sorry to be negative but is that board wired compleaty backwards. Eg should the main isolator not be on the right and rccd next to it with bus bars feeding the bottom of the mcb s. Like wise the out going cuicuits coming out of the top of the mcb s not the bottom. Look s like a very over complicated solution for a standard instalation to me.

If this is a sub-db, and the main db already has overcurrent protection, do I still need to to include an overcurrent protective breaker in this db before the surge arrester?

This is probable a stupid question but anyway.... I have a CBI Type 2 Surge arrestor QFL-N-2(13). The diagram printed on the device shows N wired on the top left terminal and L wired on the top right terminal , with Earth bridged across the bottom terminals. However, the electrician has wired it so that Live (Red) is connect to the top left terminal (N in the diagram) and Neutral (black) is connected to top right connector (L in the diagram). According to the diagram, this the wrong way around. My suspicion is confirmed by the fact that the surge arrestor light is off. Am I correct and if the diagram says N is left, then N should be connected on the left? Or doesn't it matter and I need to go back to Reading 101?

L or N doesn't matter if it has two separate identical blocks. If it is a 1P spd, then L & N will matter.

They work until the flag/indicator shows red/replace, then you throw it away and install a new one.
