Mate, just wanted to say thanks. So clearly explained and I was fitting a system that needed this, but was getting weak spark before. Went and bought a condenser and relay and wired it up as per this video and the spark is so strong now, it's perfect.

Hi! Thanks for the video, I bought everything to make this system. I have got only 1 problem: my relay buzzes only once when it gets the 12V power. I did the same test, just like at 3:11 you did. 30-positive, 86-ground, 85 and 87a together, 87-unused. How can I reach the endless buzzing?

Make sure the condenser is wired in correctly that may be your problem the condenser is what keeps the on off of the relay to stay consistent to fire the coil

could you just run 1 relay setup and run coils parallel or it wouldn't be able to provide enough power im going to wire my duals like yours but for the coil im using a gm coil pack with dual output plug wire hook ups

Those coils are made for 12v, why is a condenser needed?

Thhe condensor is so the points in the relay do not arc not for power the coil needs a clean break for the magnetic field to create a spark. A stable 555 timer circuit will also work adjustable even itt sounds like a mosquito to me.

I used a 555 timer but it kept overheating and blowing. I added a heat sink and it helped but could only run the coil a few seconds at a time

You could try it but I set it up as a standalone system on a switch so I have full spark regardless of engine RPM

So a friend gave me his hot licks flame kit when the button is pressed it cuts ignition to the engine and supplies power two the box to work the two spark plugs but when I press the button I get no sparks to the spark plugs but when I tested the wire straight from the box to the battery I get spark from the spark plugs you know why that would be happening

@@345.turbo_ I'm not sure make sure when you push the button you are getting voltage to the wire. How does it cut the ignition? if it's with a relay the relay may be bad.

@ it’s like I cut the ignition wire in the fuse box and and put a button inbetween it so unpressed it’s a connection pressed it’s supposed cut power from engine allowing gas to go through exhaust and to send 12v to flame box to activate spark plugs but I tested the 3rd prong on the button it’s didn’t show any voltage only said continuity when pressed

I would assume you could wire it without the resistor and it should work.

@@rippingburnouts I'm so happy I found this video. I went through two aftermarket spark modules because they aren't very robust and need to be used only sparingly. Even with all the components this is less than half what I paid for the spark module. The nice thing is if one side quits I don't have to trash the entire thing. All the other videos I've seen left me confused but this one is very straight forward. Thanks again.

Fused 12 volt power should feed the on off switch. The red clamp of the booster pack is positive and I have connected to the switch and the black clamp is the ground

The relay I use is a JD1914 12V 40A but most 30A relays should work. Do you have the condenser wired in correctly? And can you hear the relay turning on and off?

@@Yh-rp7dr I'm not sure what the problem is I think the 30 amp relay should have worked. hope you car get it figured out maybe check the pin numbers on the relay to make sure it wired correctly.

What's the part number or model for the coil

You can use almost any coil the one I used for this was out of a ford mustang or a truck form the 90's I just had it siting on a shelf of used part's so I'm not sure what it came from but the part# is E73F-12029-AB

I used 40 amp relays but I think that is over what you need to use but it's what I had.

Just use a igniter from a gas grill, works perfectly.

I've never seen that done I'm not sure there is enough spark from a grill igniter to light the high flowing exhaust gases but if it worked for you that's awesome as that would a way cheaper set up.

can this work with a 3 pin ignition coil from a Honda s2000 2001 and if so do i have to figure out connecting all 3 pins or just the 2 pins, here is what the s2000 pins in order left to right Triger, ground, 12v

I'm not sure how to wire that coil to make it work I've never tried one like that. It may work by giving the signal wire a ground on and off vs 12 volts being switched on and off it may be easier to just get a 2 wire coil.

​@@rippingburnouts I figured it out how to make the 3 pin work but only if you reattach the trigger pin to positive while the relay is on, soon as you turn the switch off then on again nothing happens. It's computer regulated to fire based on the rpm of the motor, so i just bought a 2 pin one thank you for the reply and for the video everything works as intended.

The function is the same a you can use one from a set of points or from a later distributor like the HEI unit I took it from for the video

@@rippingburnouts yes but for anyone looking for the parts to do this build in modern day, unless they live near a U-pick yard, they will never in a million years find a power condenser lol it's a stupid distinction like "stator" vs "magneto" vs "pickup coil" same thing but if you search the wrong or old terminology good luck finding it

Way too complicated. All you need is a coil and a switch. And of course a spark plug and wiring etc.

Not complicated at all this is how you do it. If your way works than why have I never seen it done that way? Putting voltage into a coil doesn't make it fire you need to have a set of points or ignition module to open and close to make it fire on a car. Let me know when your done building yours I like to see it work with only a switch a coil.
