Thank you for the video and your description. Found it helpful and learned a few things. I have a similar motor control board, on my treadmill, and the big electrolytic capacitor has failed -- which explains the motor's uneven/poor performance. Easy fix. Also, going to pick up some more of these parts to retrofit a drill press, plus a tachometer. Dialing in the RPM for various drill diameters/different materials will be such an improvement from the standard/awkward change-the-belt-on-the-pulleys method. Again, thanks muchly, very helpful..... !

+Chris F The site is local to Toronto, they do ship but shipping that is expensive. they usally sell for $250-350 on the site. but whenever the term AS-IS or DAMAGED is used in the title, it goes for cheap. and what do i care if the box is messed up. i only care about the motors. i just picked up a monster 3hp 90v motor or $18, could turn around and sell it for $350-400 since its NEW in box but that would leave me with no motor. and Im pretty ambitious with what i want to do.

Much better to input a PWM speed signal into the pin 4 of the 8 pin connector rather than chop the board about or use the console, also if using the flywheel and reversing the motor, the flywheel may fly off if threaded. Also the Mosfet is not a logic level type 5v gate, it requires at least 10v to turn on.

Did you figure out how to connect a pot to this without using a PWM? I have a MC2100 board and don't want to have to build a pulse width modulator in order to control the speed. The mc60 boards are much easier to use since they can be used with a pot connected directly since they don't use a pulse for control speed.

A lot of negative feedback from people that felt they weren't told enough of how to actually mod the wiring. I'd be worried that if they did not understand any of this, it's probably a good idea not to mess with any of it. He did, albeit in a dismissive , blue collar way, show us where the different blocks of the circuit board was and for those who are competent, that would probably be enough to hack the board. He didn't say "what to wire" because it's already wired. What he did indicate is what you simply don't need as it's wiring in support of the equipments other bells and whistles.
@germanovalle8026 жыл бұрын
Hi, do you know how it's possible to reduce the voltage without a transformer, if i'm not wrong, that transformer you see there, it's not the one who deliver the amp to the motor (sorry my english). I'm wondering because i have a 90V Dc motor like that one and a electronic board like that one too. i just plug to 110V in the wall and variate the speed with a potentiometer. that electronic card acts as a soft starter for the motor ? when you are talking about the power diode, are you talking about an SCR?
@portabuddy6 жыл бұрын
Mechatronics Engineering I just needed full speed. But you can use a fan motor controller. Like they use for ceiling fans. Or a "router motor controller" that transformer is used for the other circuits. Not used any more. If your only running the motor for 5-10 min at a time 120v is fine on a 90v motor. Lots of people make Sanders front these motors. Use 120-150v even. You just have to make a simple full beige rectifier and and soothing capacitor circuit. Which is all Im turning this board into.
@germanovalle8026 жыл бұрын
But if i put a bridge i will have at the capactior 110*sqrt(2) = 155V DC?
@portabuddy6 жыл бұрын
Mechatronics Engineering correct. You have to step down the voltage before the rectifier, it's not a lot of power. Less then 10a, a fan controller would work fine. You have to get the voltage down to about 70-75v or so to get it up to 90v after the cap and full bridge.
@germanovalle8026 жыл бұрын
I have no CLUE what's it's a fan controller... i will find out.
@portabuddy6 жыл бұрын
Mechatronics Engineering just search your closes home repair center for a "ceiling fan speed controller" home depot, Rona, Lowe's, obi, no clue what part of the world your in. But you can get really cheap 120v AC motor speed controllers on ebay. This is the kind that fits in the wall next to a light switch.

not what I was expecting from the title, very very little info on wiring setup to actually use the motor as an option to ac motors onl power tools. Good job reviewing circuitry if all you want to do is rer-use it as a treadmill motor. No regenerative braking info, no reversing circuitry, no load values for braking?

3:20 this is incorrect. After the voltage is rectified but before it gets to the capacitor there's an scr that acts as a motor safety that is only engaged when the motor is supposed to be running. It's also for if the mcu freezes the scr is switched off killing the power to the motor. Your explanation on how the motor control works is also wrong. At 3:40 the axial component you call a diode is actually a very low value resistor used as a shunt resistor for current sensing. Motor always has high dc positive high voltage applied to it and is switched on the low side though high frequency pwm on what you correctly identified as the transistor. The diode next to it though doesn't provide any power to the motor as you incorrectly stated; its function is to serve as a free-wheeling or snubber diode which you need on inductive loads where you suddenly close the path the current is taking. If this diode wasn't there the inductive load (motor) would keep pushing current towards the closed mosfet and the voltage would spike and potentially damage components.
