Thanks so much for this- I got the Yamaha UD-BT01, a compact Ravpower portable charger, a 6-in. Belkin cable, and Thumbjam on my iPhone 7+ connects with it to give a totally untethered setup, I can play anywhere with the phone in my shirt pocket, even velcro it all to the ewi for a completely self-contained functioning acoustic wind synth instrument. Just what I was hoping for. Thanks again.

Hi Phil! I own a Akai EWI USB and have run into some problems when installing it on my new laptop. I previously used it with a 12 year old dell laptop with windows 7. 32 bit. Now i have a new laptop, lenovo yoga 9 64 bit with windows 10 and had some strange problems with delay when i play in certain ways. I have found a wireless solution that works really well. The installation went very smoothly and well otherwise. I installed the aria software and imported my instruments and settings files. I then use my EWI usb with wireless setup. Same setup on the old laptop and the new one. I connect the EWI to a Yamaha UD-BT01, which is connected to a small powerbank for power. Then I have a CME Widi Bud(updated to version 1.4) that recieves that signal and is connected to the laptop via USB. I just run the aria software and use ASIO4ALL and then everything runs very well with almost no latency. I have made some adjustments in the ARIA program to the instruments, reverb and controllers to get the sound and use I want. Now to the problem. At first it seemed all was well and worked exactly as with the older laptop, maybe slightly more delay and ”smooth” tones but nothing really noticeable. It is when i press the tones harder and play louder and faster. I suddenly get dealy of the notes and they can come half a second later, until i stop and start playing again. When i play slow songs, that is slow between the notes and I dont press more air and volume to it. It all goes well. The effect with delay comes after i have played a series of notes together and they are more ”energetic and loader” so to say. Like it gets dealy on these notes and then catches up again if I slow down or pause. Makes it impossible to play more intensly. Nothing like this happens on the old laptop. I have tried to fiddle with the asio4all settings and cant find anything that helps but not sure what part of the asio for all settings that might control this. The buffer size does not change this, i have tried from 64 up to 2000 and nothing changes, except there is a bit more delay and responsiveness as i go higher, as expected i suppose. So i keep it on the low numbers. What is causing this and what is this effect? Im not technical on a deep level and dont know where to look and what to change. I guess i have been lucky so far that the setup worked so good without me knowing so much about it. Is it problem something that can be fixed in asio4all settings? Is there some setting i can change within the aria software? What can be different on a much newer computer, something i need to change? I need some kind of hint of what it can be so i can start somewhere. I cannot really play when it is like this, when i get going and want to increase the intensity i lose the control of the instrument due to long dealy suddenly. I can only play slowly and carefully without delays. Hope you have some kind of idea what it can be
@PhilGeissler3 жыл бұрын
A confusing problem for sure. I can only think of 2 possibilities... 1. The CC settings may need to be optimized. 2. The conduction for the keys is not operating well. I have had this problem myself. What I use is hand cream, not the greasy kind. I just rub a small amount on my fingertips. This usually helps with conduction. Let me know if you find the answer to the problem.

This setup will not work with the EWI5000. Only the EWI-USB. The EWI4000s will work but you'll need the Yamaha MD-BT01 instead of the CME WIDI BUD. I recommend the Panda Midibeam for the EWI5000 and EWI4000s instead of this setup. The range and latency are a tad better with the Midibeam.

It works with Megallan on iPad! I tried to make Megallan connect with EWI USB via bluetooth MIDI using Yamaha UD-BT01, as explained in your video. At first, Megallan didnt show bluetooth device in input list, but after connecting first via ThumbJam, then suddenly UD-BT01 appeared in in Megallan inputs (and iPad settings as bluetooth device) - and it plays smoothly! Check out the Megallan sounds and playing here, kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHzZoGSvj6eeqJI

I have ThumbJam also. It connected as soon as I enabled the midi connection in the "Pref" section. Thanks for commenting!

Hi Phil Thanks!!! Just one question: using the Yamaha UD and the ipad software are able to correctly reproduce the after touch effect I mean does your breath effect the volume of the sound? Thanks again!

If you are using the EWI-USB the Breath Controller by default is set on CC2 which is volume control. Having said that, I'm not sure of the iPad software you are using, it might be able to assign CC settings also? Thanks for wacthing!
