What about using BUSD as the payment method? Does it count as a taxable event as other digital assets? And do Binance have some sort of cashback extrad for that as well as BNB?
@TheLearningsReport2 жыл бұрын
@@hreynisson Sorry for some reason your comment ended up being flagged as spam and didn't appear until we approved it! As BUSD is pegged to the USD, I would be very surprised if it was treated as a taxable event (but of course, if you would still need to convert your holdings to BUSD first, and that, would be a taxable event). Cashback at the moment is only paid in BNB token, unfortunately. - Ste

Hello again :) I know this question is weird, but I want to know so I give it a try. How can the government check my purchases on my binance card, since it's not connected to my bank, and they can't see the money I withdraw from Binance to my Binance card? My passport / identity is connected to my Binance profile, and everytime I spend money, it will show my name on the receipt to the owner of the store, but I think that's it. Has Visa anything connected to ones own government? I can’t figure my head around how they can track down how much money I have, or have spend through this card? P.S i'm using fiat/euro from the card, and i'm a NFT creator who get’s crypto, so the money have never ever been in my bank. Thank you

@@CastraRadu I'm still a little confused by what you're trying to do. Am I correct in saying that you're trying to add your Binance Card to the Revolut app, so that you can take funds from your Binance card, and move them into Revolut to spend with Revolut, or move back to your regular bank account - right? As you see in the video, we do this exact thing (link the card to Revolut) and I'm able to move the funds from the card into my Revolut balance. @TheLearningsReport2 жыл бұрын
So in short, yes you're correct - there's no specific guidance yet, but that doesn't mean it's simply tax free :) In Ireland for example, the guidance is that the same rules for stocks/shares apply to crypto, at least in general terms. If we look at how things are going in the US when it comes to taxing defi etc. it's very likely that those transactions will be seen as taxable events. Governments are not going to just let a whole industry go un-taxed :) - Ste

Hi, if you use the Binance card to cash out using an AIB ATM, will AIB charge you any fee?
@TheLearningsReport2 жыл бұрын
Hey - Binance say they 'may' charge an atm withdrawal fee of up to 0.9%, but you'd need to test it out as I've only ever used it for card payments. In terms of AIB ATMs specifically, again, you'd need to test it and see. Usually, if the card you're using isn't compatible with the ATM (or it's not the native bank card) there will be a message displayed saying 'X fee for this withdrawal will be charged. if you find out that indeed you do need to pay a fee, the alternative would be to link your binance card to revolut and move your funds into Revolut before withdrawing from ATM. @TheLearningsReport2 жыл бұрын
Hey! So if you use the crypto on your card to make purchases, then yes, those are most likely taxable events. Remember, if you buy something with Bitcoin using your Binance card, you need to think of it as 'Bitcoin sold for EUR (or other currency), then exchanged with the merchant to pay for the good/service).' Essentially when you make the purchase, you're 'selling' your Bitcoin, and thus, are due to pay tax on the realised gain at the point you make the purchase. - Ste

Right guys! As you mentioned in the video, if you convert crypto into fiat, it is a taxable event, but if you convert crypto into a stable coin, is it tax free, as some ppl say?
@TheLearningsReport3 жыл бұрын
Afraid so - in most countries, the action of swapping BTC for ETH, or BNB for USDC, or whatever trading pair you want to use an example - will count as a 'sale' for tax purposes. If you think about it, it makes sense, as theoretically, stable coins are just digital version of the underlying currency (USD for example) - so if you sell all your BTC for USDT, you may as well have sold it to fiat. If the opposite was true, it'd be a major loophole 😅 But one that would be very nice if it were true. - Ste

@TheLearningsReport3 жыл бұрын
Nice one Eoin - appreciate it. So if you're simply referring to 'purchasing' BTC using the EUR, then no, they wouldn't be taxable events because you're only taxed when you sell. So if you buy with your bank card directly, or deposit eur to your exchange and spend it later, it's still pretty much the same thing (i.e. you're just holding EUR and waiting to spend it). However, if the EUR you have on the exchange came from a SALE of another asset (e.g. you sell ETH to EUR, and then go and spend that EUR on BTC) then of course that first transaction (selling ETH to EUR) is a taxable event, taxed at 33%. But your secondary purchase of BTC wouldn't be taxed until you then decided to sell that also. Probably not the best example but hope that helps? - Ste

Hi Daniel - are you using Revolut? In the video you can see that we suggest linking your Binance card to Revolut, adding funds into Revolut, and then from Revolut you can then withdraw directly to your bank. It's not the smoothest method, but it gets around the withdrawal fee! - Ste

Saw something lately that you have to click though before being able to do anything on binance - something about sharing data with 'Biffinity UAB' ...might be worthy of another video. seems like an extra level of verification they have added of late. have you guys spotted that? & wondering any thoughts on it. like who are they? just curious. i did all the kyc before , to do anymore seems excessive at this point. wow great videos.
@TheLearningsReport2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mr. Nokodemion, Biffinty UAB is an entity of Binance, as per their website: "Bifinity UAB is registered with the Registry of Legal Entities of the Republic of Lithuania and local FIU as a crypto wallet service provider, which allows it to provide custody and trading services for virtual assets." As with all these terms and conditions, we recommend reading through and making sure you're happy to accept them. You'll most likely be fine, though. - Cian

Hello again gents, I have a quick question if you don't mind. You talked about taxable events (I'm also a tax resident of Ireland), do these only occur once you trade back into a fiat currency? For example, if I was to trade from crypto into BUSD or any other inter-crypto trade for that matter, would these events be considered taxable? Thank you again :D
@TheLearningsReport3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kev, Good question - unfortunately, if you make a trade into any other crypto it counts as a taxable event. And it is still a taxable event even if you leave the crypto/funds on the broker. You would only owe tax if you made a gain on the crypto. We have videos on crypto investing, and how they are taxed, which you can check out if you are interested: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6vKg5qjqaykb8k - kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5mbl3pol5Voibs - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fouUhKeniMt4l6c Always here if you have any other questions! - Cian

@TheLearningsReport3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Bruce. So the Ts&Cs says 'Up to a 0.9% transaction fee for transactions and ATM withdrawals' but when we tried with Euro, we couldn't see any fee on our side. Best bet is to simply do a test transaction in Euro, give it a day or two, and then check your transaction history to see if any fee was applied. My guess would be it should be fine if using euro!

Hey great overview gents, thanks for making this. Quick one - if I were to place EUR directly in my funding wallet via SEPA - > Binance, and in turn get the BNB reward, am I right in thinking this would not be a taxable event? Trying to avoid taxable events where possible. Thanks in advance. ps have you considered a future vid on the recent EU decision to curtail use of custodial wallets (self-ownership of crypto)? crazy draconian decision I think. Cheers again.
@TheLearningsReport2 жыл бұрын
No bother, glad you found it useful! Yeah correct, that would be our understanding also. Similarly to how fiat credit cards do cash back, those rewards aren't taxable (as it's basically viewed as discount). This, as far as we're aware, is would be the same as when you receive your BNB. The difference of course is that if you then go and sell some of that BNB or swap it to EUR, etc. then that will be a taxable event and your cost basis would be the value of BNB cash back when you received it. Will need to look into that EU decision as wasn't familiar with it! Thanks for putting it on our radar. - Ste

Hi Guys, just a quick question which I think you might have the answer for me a few months ago my binance got compromised and lost a total of 14k from my Binance which was transferred to a wallet in Egypt. What was does revenue view this as they hardly want me to pay tax on money which has been stolen and confirmation and track record from Binance ? Thanks Ben
@TheLearningsReport3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben - Sorry to hear that. If you can prove that your funds were lost as a result of criminal activities (e.g. a hack) then perhaps Revenue will be flexible. However, Binance usually use their SAFU fund to cover any hacks that occur through their platform, so I'm unsure how the $14k would simply have been ignored? I'd check with Binance on that one. If the funds were hacked outside of their platform, or due to your own human error, then I don't know how revenue would deal with that - likely you'd still be liable for it. - Ste

Heya - it should work fine! However, their support only mentioned that euro was how you could avoid the transaction fees when using the card. So just be aware that you MAY have to pay that small fee when using it, but, I don't see any reason why you can't use the card to simply withdraw the funds (which seems to be your main question). By using the Binance card, you won't need to involve HSBC at all. Hope that helps. - Ste
