@DanielRodriguez-io2me4 жыл бұрын
Travelanes oooh fr? cruise ship life isn’t that good or just that specific company?
@CosplayLane4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Rodriguez nah, we were under the umbrella of carnival and princess. Which makes up the vast majority of most cruise ships in the world. However, there aren’t a lot of laws to protect workers. I had items thrown at me, coworkers, walls, and floors during meetings. Sexual harassment was insane- not just for the gals but even for the men from other men. I had a cabin outside 2 water tight doors that screamed at 6am every morning and blocked my way constantly, my room was moldy when I moved in (flies as well) but because my roommate was friends with the person that inspected her room she didn’t need to clean it- the walls of the bathroom were literally slimy. My cabin was without electricity for a week and I had to report it daily until someone fixed it (imagine getting ready and having to show up in full makeup and hair.. but getting ready in 100% blackness. Can’t even use iPhone light because couldn’t charge my phone- no power.) . I was told I’d work a maximum at 72 hours a week for 10 months. Instead, I worked on average 84. I was also told by princess that I could room with my fiancé, which they took back because he and I were different departments (some departments can live together, some can’t. Entertainment and electricians can live together. Shop and spa can live together. But entertainment and spa? No way.). My dad also was hospitalized and I was unsure if he was alive when I went to work that morning, and I actually got screamed at and told to buy a 1400$ plane ticket to go home if my home issues were “distracting me”. (My distraction? The department phone rang and I had the audacity to turn my head for .05 seconds towards the noise. The trainer that screamed at me apologized literally 10 months later during my second contract saying she was having a bad morning. Like that made that okay??). When I quit, 2 days before I left my timesheet was confiscated from me, even though I’m legally required to fill it out as a seafarer for every day. I saw this happen on my fist ship and the manager usually does this to add more “x”‘a to make it look like you are working a legal amount of time rather than the actual illegal hours we worked. One day my lunch and dinner breaks were taken away so I worked 14 hour straight without break on my period while not being allowed to return to my cabin to refresh my hygiene product, in which I got an infection from- the medical office actually confirmed that was the reason for my infection. I currently have friends on ships all over due to those contracts. No matter what the company, some of my friends haven’t been paid the last 3 months. Several of my friends on 6 month contracts have been on a ship by force for over a year- despite their country actually requesting their nationals on ships come home 3+ months ago. 2 cruise ships were recently detained in the uk for not paying crew and refusing to send them home. It’s a severe human rights issue. There are no human or body rights on ships, and almost no labor laws. The laws that do exist are broken happily even with the fines ships get they don’t really care. Oh and the best part of all: I was given a pay outline that was more than double than what I was actually paid. Because they gave me an outline that included tips. They then sent me to a ship in Australia with no tips. I got paid less than 2$ an hour. I wasn’t given a choice to go elsewhere and they told me the same hour they sent me to the ship itself. Most the bartenders and stewards had similar experiences about lied to pay. The cabin and food doesn’t actually make up for it. If you are the food you got norovirus, and if you were in your cabin it leaked, was moldy, and had alarms and watertight doors screaming. Not that it mattered I was only allowed in my cabin from about 10:30pm-6am 🤷🏼♀️. I highly recommend not supporting the industry until they do better. Mind you, I was treated better than other nationalities onboard. That should tell you something lol.

Brighton Barnes hello! I actually got the job! I’m just waiting on a contract. My past jobs were day camp counselor and a sports instructor. They said my position didn’t require a college degree which I don’t have so that worked out well for me. The requirements for the job were past experience in sports instruction and sports themselves. Also it’s not required but they would like someone to have experience with the flowrider.

The Mt. Everest hi, its quite easy really for star cruises. But dont know about other cruise lines. They did an open interview and the rest is just waiting for their call. Just keep an eye for their open interview. Or, find out their email address, email your resume and photo over and hope that they call. I did try applied for a casino position for carnival, same thing, email over resume and they will email u back (though i am not sure whether that the "real" agents for carnival). Cruise ships wont hire u directly, they go through hiring agents. Once hired, will go through medical checks, some assessment test and then training and u are all set

Here is a tip ladies. On your application they will ask you if you have tattoos. If you say yes, you likely won't get offered a job. If you can't see it under normal clothing you might be ok. But unless its on your butt or something you run the risk of someone seeing it on your back or tummy and reporting it.

@TouristtoLocal7 жыл бұрын
BornFancy no way?! I will hopefully see you on the ships some day! Are you nervous about applying or about actually working on the ship?
@BornFancy7 жыл бұрын
Tourist to Local That'd be great! I'm a bit nervous for the interview (Interviews always make me nervous) but more so just the first few weeks of getting used to all the public speaking and using the mic. I've been on 6 cruises so I know what I'd be doing, it's just having the confidence the first few weeks and getting over those initial nerves I guess. From what I've seen your first week they let you watch and shadow everyone? And then your second week you do it by yourself? Was that first week enough time to get used to it? The scheduling, the speaking, all the different things you'd have to do? :)
@TouristtoLocal7 жыл бұрын
BornFancy omg I can relate so much to how you're feeling. I was sooooo nervous to do my first activities, and I cried a lot my first week because I felt like everyone had stronger mic skills than me. But it does get easier over time. I'm on my second contract and I'm FINALLY figuring out my persona on the mic. It does take time, and practice makes perfect! You will train for your first and maybe second week simply. Y shadowing, then they'll put you on activities that are easy, like trivias and activities hosted by several people. And as for the confidence thing, you just have to remember that you were chosen for a reason. It's so easy to compare yourself to the other hosts, but just stay true to yourself and things will work out well for you!
