My husband and I worked a cruise after he retired in his 50's. When we cruise for pleasure now, it's fun to talk to crew members and see their "customer service" face change to "colleague" face when we tell them we worked on a ship. All of a sudden, we are on the other side of the fence. They also know we understand how hard and long they each work all day every day. This vid was full of useful (and true!) info. Thanks.

The food part really has put me off. Surely the cruise has a responsibility to look after its staff and keep them strong and healthy especially working so much. I’m also a vegetarian so the thought of getting served unidentifiable slop makes my stomach turn. The best roommates are the ones where each of you can yell at each other, but not AT each other, and use the other one to vent and be a sounding board-especially if you can lose the English and understand each other. Worst roommate: The one that was ALWAYS in the cabin with some guy-Friggin ALWAYS. Did this ever come up with you?

Hi this is a really cool informative video and from the comments I see that you worked on Carnival. A friend of mine worked there and I might end up working there as a photographer. I wanted to ask you which is surprising to me that you mention all those things to do when in port, but my friend told me that there isnt that much time to spend in a port, depending on your manager, so I wonder does this depend on work you do on the ship or the cruiser itself or... and you mention allergies etc, while I have none, but how does clear tan help, if I understood what o you said correctly isnt that just basically self tanning cream? I use only natural products that are also edible for my skin, I hope I can bring those on board lol. Also partying on the ship? According to my friend, you will only want to take time to sleep and rest, hardly go to parties, but I do hope some partying will be possible (physically and mentally lol). She was a photographer. And one more thing, so you think a vegan would be able to survive working on the ship? I was also thinking vitamins and protein supplements, can those, the quality ones, be bought in ports? ps. I really dont like the idea of sb else cleaning my room (cabin?) and washing my clothes? Hell no! lol. Meh, I hope I can get around that. Or get used to it lol.

You can party every night if you want. Depending what the night life is like on your ship. And if you're going on as a vegan, lord help you. Crew messes don't know what veganism is.
