How to Work with a Discoloring Fragrance | Making Cold Process Soap

Yet again, Brambleberry was spot on with their description on this fragrance oil. I knew I could expect this to turn dark brown, and I knew I could trust it to smell absolutely wonderful. I don’t even like pumpkin scents, and this smells delicious.
I’ve read that many soapers suggest to leave some of the batter unscented to work around a discoloring fragrance, but I’ve also read in some places that the scent can bleed into the unscented portions and still turn the color, messing up the intended design. I thought maybe if I let the uncolored portions completely saponify first, the fragrance would have less chance to bleed into the fully saponified confetti pieces. Let’s test this out.
For the second batch, I added a little cocoa powder. This will add a little to the soap properties and anchor the brown a little. One thing I noticed when testing these soaps is that once you use the soap, the confetti does have potential to discolor slightly. Maybe the water helps carry some of the fragrance to the entire surface of the soap which causes discoloration, but the confetti still holds enough color to add design and interest to an otherwise very plain soap.

White: Snow White from Mad Micas
Yellow: Goldfinger from Mad Micas and Lemon Drop from Nurture Soap
Orange: Koi from Mad Micas and Mango Tango from Nurture Soap
Green: Snake Island from Mad Micas and Enchantment from Nurture Soap

Thank you! If you try something like this, I highly recommend anchoring the color with black or a darker brown than I did. I feel like when I used this, it still didn't look as oxidized as the outside. 😃

I have to tell you that I love, "Can She Soap it?" So creative and unique. I've never seen an organza bag used as a filter before. You are clever!! I personally like the darkening of the soap and the day 2 on both of them looked really beautiful because the colors in the confetti you added, Popped. Well done and yes, You Can Soap it! : )

The soap came out wonderful! Yes, it did get darker, and it's still so beautiful! Thanks for sharing how to work with a discoloring FO. I try to use a vanilla stabilizer or I will just add it to the darker colors of soap. ML!
