From perspective who works with multiple deities: 1. Come prepared. Deity work is not for very beginner, you need to nail your energy work and some divination method to start. You just need to be able to sense their presence and comunicate with your deity. Until you have this two abilities is better to stick to veneration. Veneration or worship (one way realationship with deity) is for everyone and it will make transition to deity work (two way relationship) easier later on :) 2. Do not feel forced to work with deities, because it's trendy now. If it's not your jam, just don't. Your practice, your choice. 3. Do not choose deity just because it's popular in the internet. Read, double check, confirm that's something for you before you commit. 4. Do not beat yourself up if chosen deity does not respond to you. It means it's not good match for you at this specific time in your life. You stil can venerate this deity or step back and search for someone else. 5. Working with deity archetype can be as fullfilling as working with named deity. Named deity is deity that is linked to specific religion/culture. Archetype deity is broad label of "Heavenly Ruler" "the Judge" or "Guardian of the Dead" etc. If you really want to work with deity and you cannot find "the one" which will match you, you can work with archetype - if you want to work with deity of war it doesn't mean that it has to be Mars or Tyr. It can be just archetypal deity of war, period. 6. Working with multiple deities and multiple pantheons is hard and it's not competition. It's better start small and build up than pick up whole bunch and then drown in too much research. Do it at your own pace :). 7. Don't be afraid to be one who resigns from relationship with deity if it's not working for you. Tell them respectfully that and it will be ok. 8. There will be deities with whom you'll colaborate only once or twice for specific working. There's nothing wrong with that.

Great advice! I will also add that sometimes the deity will choose YOU and it won't even be one you considered working with. I was Called by deities in the Greek pantheon even though I had 0 interest. I didn't connect to the myths and stories at all so I was quite surprised by it.

@@inthenebula92 Yeah, didn't add that part :). My deities also took me by suprise - one is Polish-Slavic, second is specifically Kashubian (I'm Polish/Kashubian). Both chose me and are not super popular so a lot of panic searching ^^. Also I've had few deities who contacted with me but I declined - they didn't sit right with me. That's also an option that is often missed in instructions :)

Most of the time when I've felt called to a specific deity it's just that I was interested in them in an academic way and while I'm researching I'll feel a presence and know, oh you want to be here. There was 1 time I had a big religious experience I had a vision while I was meditating that was so crystal clear and I didn't find the deity that matched my vision for *5 years* (when I did finally find her it felt like getting slapped in the face) so -to the beginners out there-even if you have a big calling experience it doesn't always mean shits gonna go down right now. Don't be afraid to give yourself time and let things flow the way they want to flow. (Love your videos :)

Oof I'm so glad I watched this video! I was a total skeptic about deities and spirits in general but recently I have been Called by deities who want to work with me. I have been receiving tons of messages the same way you do, through knowing, and I was genuinely worried I might be losing my mind because I've never had this happen before. It's so strange, I would get the message to do this or that, or the deity in particular likes or dislikes that, and then doing research I'd find later that it was true! I think for me as a skeptic, a lot of the people I have seen that work with spirits can seem . . . a bit off, so it put my mind at ease to see another skeptic talk about their experiences.

I definitely agree with you on the "worship" bit. I really struggled with that for a long time! Especially since I view Gods in a psychological meets pantheistic way... It's hard to worship something that you believe is part of yourself. It's kind of a trip thinking about worshipping something that is part of you. But anyways, yes, agreed! The main diety I work with is Gaia or Mother Nature. I've researched so many different pantheon and none of the felt real/tactile enough for Me. At its core I think life and nature and the universe can best be represented through a figure like Gaia. She has many names through many cultures. I've decided to work with the goetic demons (ancient gods) King Paimon & Queen Lilith have been resonating with me lately. The experience seems quite profound, I see all the time where folks think demons/daemons are evil lol I always laugh when I hear this (I wish I had Jameson's laugh). In Greek & Assyrian languages the term daemon/demon means "spirit guide" and lately I've been overcoming personal obstacles through their guidance & meditations. I'm slowly starting to develop a connection that I never could have with any other pantheon (which I find strange) I think I've finally found something that I can stick with spiritually. You are the best Occultist on KZbin right now! I have a deity whom I have been working with for quite some time now. I have complete trust in him. He has always taken care of me. I had some time when I wasn’t working with my deity nor was I practicing my Craft either. I think it was because my ritual space got too cluttered. I know that sounds odd, but it’s just what happened. My partner helped me clean out my ritual space and put it back in order. So, I have resumed my daily prayers and workings with my deity. I do want to re-arrange my space a bit more to bring my deity’s altar closer to me and I would like to try automatic writing as a way to make a deeper connection with my deity. I can always get some ideas on what to do next from your videos. Thank you!

I dont know how I feel about deity work. I look at how ancestors worked with the gods, and for the most part, until the big 3 came, working with deities, worshipping them, wasnt done like I see most people do. Ordinary people called on the god they needed when they needed. If you needed rain, you called on the rain god, if you were pregnant, you calle on the goddesses that protected pregnant women. Some holidays were associated with a particular god. And most societies had very simalar gods. Of course the god of the sun has a different meaning if you lived in a place that had long cold winters that lacked sunlight, you would have traditions that called back the sun, whereas a place that is sunny and warm still had a sun god, but that god had a lesser role in that society because the need to petition him was less. Most gods depict aspects of the natural world, energy forces that create phenomena like weather, or a natural formation like a mountain or lake. So is it the natural world that is the deity? That energy force that we manipulate with our devotion and worship? Each god of a particular phenomenon also has strong personality traits, and if we want those traits, we ask for help from that deity to gain those traits. Those traits might be slightly different in cultures but you seem to have simalar archetypes in all, it's just a question of which deity has what trait, which kind of shows which deity was most important to that area and therefore that culture. It seems you can pick and choose which one speaks to you because they are kind of interchangeable in so many ways. And a rose by any name would smell just as sweet...lol. if you are worshipped the return of spring, does it much matter if you call on persephone by name? If your blessing your home or hearth, does it matter if you call on hestia, vesta, or bridget as keeper of the home fires? I'm rambling now as I'm thinking, but I'm willing to bet many question these things as i do. I have gathered many stautes of gods, mainly goddesses, from thrifting, as I believe the universe gives you what you need when you need it. And I'm trying to incorporate my ideas on deities into what I eventually do in my practice, but being unsure, it's kind of hard to know. I guess I steer more towards a more animist way of thinking, but I'm unsure of that as well.

@@IvyTheOccultist for a lot of us, we took a long time to undo the worship of a god, with a mythology that is often times confusing, used for negative reasoning, or gives bad memories. I stopped thinking a long time ago that I should be beholden to a god that's mouth pieces seemed so self righteous and self serving in nature, yet never spoke to me. I kind of like the idea that the gods, the energy forces and natural phenomena of the world does its thing without worrying about how I live my life, and what "sins" I may or may not have committed as an imperfect being. That when bad things happen, it's not a personal attack, it's just nature, physics, the way the world, and imperfect emotional people work. It keeps me grounded to the fact that I'm not the center of the universe, I am not that important of a cog in the wheel that everyone and everything is out to get me. That I do have some control over my life and destiny. That there is something greater then me, alot of something's actually, and that's ok, it's not out to get me, the world and universe is just doing its thing. And yes, I can tap into the energy of the earth to recharge and add strength to my lagging batteries, draw power from the storms, the earth and sea, whatever, and use that to help me as I go about life, all I really control is me. And that is a big relief. Some days I might call the storm Zeus's, the next Thor, but it's all the same to the storm, it's just a way to honor those who have thought the same ideas as me many many years ago. I guess it's how I see the interconnectedness of it all, that others had these thoughts for as long as people walked the earth, that so many cultures, societies and civilizations honored those same principles, phenomena, forces, and energies as I do now. That I can look at a mountain or stream and feel the same awe and power as others who came centuries before me, to see a storm coming and feel the power just as they did thousands of years ago. To see the destruction of an earthquake and know that while it has taken so much from us mere mortals, creation is also in that act.

I touched on something similar in my response. I find the most connection with Gaia or Mother Earth. It's easy to connect the image of the mother to the message of the universe. This makes the most sense to me and what I have found to be the most useful idea of "God".

They can be self serving but worshiping is historically a good way to please them. Although I agree that you should keep autonomy in what you do and don’t give too much to them since they’ll probably see you more like a pest than someone worthy of mutual respect.

Very good video, even if i don't agree with everything 😊 - but that's the beauty of witchcraft. To new witches! Or the ones searching for answears! 1. You can aproach the deity by just talking, using pendulum, cards (playling cards work fine, and u can search for what clubs, heart ext. And numbers - then read by mix&match) however you want to! 2. You will be nervous, you might be scared - chtonic, or deieties of death, are deities that probably will make ypu nervous - as pop culture has thought us some things right? So we should just be open minded. 3. No relationship is going to be the same 😅. Me and my friend are under the same goddess wing, and to me she's a mother figure (cause that's what i need) and she speaks to me so. While to my friend, she's more like an friend-aunt relationship, while still being a deity she's more laid back and matches the silly-goofy style of conversation my friend has. I belive dieties can tell if they'll be good for us. For example, we both also work with chtonic dieties but of different pantheons, as again my patron might not enjoy silly-goofy conversations. That's why it's also important to talk individualy, or get to know your deity but also on paper, on myths, eras or whatever you can find. The Morriaghon . From Celtic pantheon. She is both known as one goddess for her reunion every samhain with her lover, or a triple goddess with her two sisters. She turned into a crown for different reasons.

I had some very wird animal interactions / sightings when Lilith was reaching out to me. Crows/ravens started to appear in front of me in strang-er places. We have this big farm land I drive past regularly. There, I always expect to see crows/ravens. But then some would land where I was stopping with my car or land on a roof and stare at me. It was really creepy, but also kind of cool. XD At first I thought it might be The Morrigan trying to reach out, because her symbols are crows/ravens, but with some help I confirmed it was Lilith. She was probably very frustrated that I didn't get the hint for some time. I'm just glad she didn't immediately send me spiders like I've heard from other practitioners. XD

Here's a question that I'm sure a lot of other people have wondered too: What do you do with food or drink offerings once the ritual is over? I mean, I assume the deity is not actually going to eat the food or drink the wine. And yet you don't want to just throw it away after it's been dedicated to a deity, right?? So what do you do with it?

To the compost! For me, it's not the actual food or drink that matters. It's the "act of service" of taking time and effort to give an offering that you think your deity would like. It's the gratitude behind it for me! So when the ritual is done, I have no problem recycling the food and drink back into the earth. ❤️

Not everyone has access to a compost bin or pile. One possibility is burying it in a nearby park or going for a hike and leaving it in the forest. If you can´t go for a hike, use herbal tea instead of food offerings and use it the next day to water your plants - get creative.. And if all else fails and you have to put it in the garbage, make a little ceremony : wrap it up. thank it for its service and put it in the bin .

Hey Ivy, so I’m very new to dark goddess work, I mostly journal and I currently don’t have the money yet for candles, spell books etc… but I’ve chosen Lilith - and I’ve had dreams of moons, red eyes and the color red in general like blood, maroon ink & red makeup, is that a sign from Lilith? Am I being chosen to work with her? I mention her in my journal and I’m curious if these are signs, I even draw her sigil. I’m curious what it means. I haven’t dreamed of her yet. But I’ve heard her name in a dream I had days ago.

I might need more context here to be able to properly answer this question. In my experience, deities aren't parasitic. Are you sure it's a deity?

@@ayseo7998 ah, daemons definitely make more sense! I personally have never worked with angels or demons. However, those that I know who do work with demons actually recommend calling in a deity while banishing demons. Deities are much "larger" entities/energies than demons. But if you're looking for an actual banishing ritual, check out "Protection & Reversal Magick" by Jason Miller. His book is great!

Does anyone know if it's ok to completely re-purpose an altar to a deity you no longer work with?

I think this is a personal preference between you and your deity, but to me, I see no problems with repurposing an altar! When I take down an altar for a god I no longer work with, I typically thank each item that was on the altar and give gratitude for the lessons learned. It's important to acknowledge that this chapter is closing. Then I perform some sort of cleansing routine and give it time to breathe before adding a new God in its place. But that's just me!

one thing that seems somewhat strange from the perspective of shamanistic traditions is that some people are calling gods or powerful spirits to them. from what i´ve read it was always that the witch / shaman went to them.. like i never call the sun to me, i go to the sun (mortal human vs. star, big difference there in age alone). it was the younger / helper spirits that they called to the hut, or forest place, to help with the travel to the more powerful spirit (each helper had their own song with different melody). some of that hut work feels like "old-man-talk" to me, why wouldn´t you simply walk there.. like mental to me reads not able to walk anymore, it´s cultural probably, we still walk a lot here :)

Interesting point! I think this is a matter of perception. Are we actually calling the gods to us or are we simply isolating energy that's already present in our environment? Are we actually traveling to the gods or are we just silencing our mind enough to hear them? But I agree with you on the grammar used. Usually in shamanic cultures you are "traveling" in an astral state to see divinity. Nowadays people typically say "bring in the gods" which insinuates that we are calling the gods to us. However, I don't know if that's actually what we're doing; I feel it's more of a difference in language than practice.
