This video shows a quick and simple way to wrap an axe handle with paracord. There are a few reasons why you may want to do this,
1) To protect the handle from missed strikes, the paracord will take some of the impact reducing damage to the handle.
2) You have a decent length of paracord with you if you need it.

Good ole whipping knot works for many many things, making a grip, protecting a handle and so much more!! I do this with all my walking sticks and had randomly thought about doing this to my axe to protect it.... didn't know that it was such a common thing lol

Definitely going to try this. I normally use inner tube but this seems nicer looking and more durable. 👍

You could use a ranger band/bicycle tire innertube, and put the paracord over it, in fact it would probably be better since the innertube would keep the paracord from slipping & moving around.

That's a nice feature to put on my Viking style axe. Thanks for the idea Paul. As with leg wraps (putty's) I would do it other way round, starting the wrap from the slimmer end of the to be wrapped bit up towards the axe head, to prevent any loosening up...

Hey Paul great video keep them coming... before you permanently whip that handle, make sure you sand it down real real good and apply at least five or six coats of boiled linseed oil. I know you're probably going to do it anyway but, just thought I'd mention it take care buddy

Without doing this axe handles eventually need replacing, I know. By doing this regularly an axe handle should last a lifetime. I will start doing this, thanks.

As a righty I like the under laying knit part on the right side to shape the handle in the style of a right handed Japanese knife. (Round on the left side with a peak on the right side)

Did this but hated the feel when choking up. Removed the para cord, ended up putting a double layer of bicycle tubing on. Took major effort but works perfectly.

Thanks for the tip. I have the same axe (great minds think alike). I put a couple of ranger bands on mine; one over the over but it looks ugly to be honest. I think Ill try your wrap. Another great vid Paul.

Put the paracord over the ranger band, double protection & the rubber will hold the paracord in place, make sure you get the type iii 7 strand mil spec paracord, the wal-mart 550 paracord is 5 strand and isn't guaranteed 550lb minimum breaking strength, plus it stretches, mil spec doesn't. 👍

A bit of super glue will definitely help to keep the cord in place, cause it will slip in time.

And if you ever have a hair line crack in your wood, you will never know it and you can snap your axe head off ….the wood will crack over time and there is no way to inspect your axe handle thanks to you wrapping it . Not smart
