Thanks! We really hard work at home. It’s literally full time job and it’s so underrated. Let’s get rid of the stigma that stay at home parents are under qualified.

This was excellent! I've been at home for 12 years and I'm tired, it's been hard work. I just recently went back to college and college is so much easier than all these years I've spent as a home manager. I love how you gave us examples, I think they were great and I will definitely be using those on my resume. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Thank you for this video, I have recently started trying to re-enter the workforce after about 8 yrs and I was not sure whether to add SAHM to my resume or if it would cause discrimination. I am very proud to be a mom and I all thr wonderful things I have learned and getting to see my children grow. And I hope companies can start to see a SAHM worth as we have so much to give.
@thecareercounter1882

There is always a risk that an employer will discriminate. But if they do it’s probably not a company that you want to work for anyway. As long as you emphasize your transferable skills that are relevant to the skills in the job you are targeting, I say include your SAHM experience! If it’s the right company, they will appreciate your value and what you bring to the table. Good luck!!

@@thecareercounter1882 do you consider selling items on offerup as work experience? I did not do this often just randomly from time to time while I've been home.
@thecareercounter1882
@thecareercounter1882 Жыл бұрын
Yes I would absolutely consider that experience. You could add it under a category titled something like “part-time” or “contract” or “seasonal” or something to that effect.

I may be a man though I am returning back to part time work as my child has special needs though I am so ready to return. I am so going to rock my resume again. Kitchen work is nice but I am so ready to return to a call center, it was so much fun. The girls were the push I needed as they asked if I would be going back. I AM SO EXCITED AND THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thank you for your question! In this case I would recommend that they market any volunteer work, or also education, like courses, degrees, or certifications or trainings that relate to their career goal. Even part-time work that is not related can be included on the resume. You can highlight transferable skills like communication, problem-solving, and leadership.

Lol I told my 6 year old that being a stay at home mom is like a 24/7 job, his response was : "no its not mom because you dont get paid" 😅 haha gotta love children. I do have to say those skills about staying calm during chaos is something many older moms have told me. Im very good at keeping calm all the meanwhile my kids throw full blown tantrums😂 I have 3 kiddos and moms always congratulate me for how well i stay calm. But anyways im trying to get back into the workforce, the thing is that my last job was in 2017 working for metro pcs authorized retailer and I became a stay at home mom in 2018 till present day. Im a bit nervous just having the thought of having my first interview after such a long time...
@thecareercounter1882
@thecareercounter1882 7 ай бұрын
Yes kids always tell you exactly what is on their mind (good or bad, true or false) haha! Keeping calm under pressure is hard and that's awesome you've mastered that. That is something you can definitely market in your interviews. My one piece of advice for your interviewing is this: always remember the tremendous amount of skills and experience you have gained while working inside the home. When you are preparing for interviews, print out the job posting. Highlight the skills and experience the employer is seeking. Next, make a list of your transferable skills and write out specific examples of how you can add value to each part of the role (the examples can be from your prior experience at Metro and/or working inside of the home). My husband who is a hiring manager said his company just hired a returning mom. What impressed them the most about her was that in the interview, she totally owned her work inside the home and was super confident. She was like "look, I took x amount of time to raise my child. During that time I took xyz courses and gained abc experience working inside the home to keep my skills sharp. I'm ready and excited now to return to my field."

I am 30 years old and on ssdi due to depression but before I worked for ihss for 6 years then Radisson hotel, Ross, an entertainment business, and Alorica.! I’m not ready to go back to work but my biggest fear is not being hireable when I go back. I did go to college and got a certificate in business administration. Don’t know if that would be enough though. Any advice
@thecareercounter1882
@thecareercounter1882 Жыл бұрын
Hi Shayona! Big hugs. You are not alone in your fear of not being hireable. You have so much value to add to a company. There is not another you out there who will perform the tasks of the job in quite the same way. Always remember that! Also, think of all the transferable skills you have gained throughout your career and your education. Skills like problem-solving, customer service and communication to name just a few. Plus your business certificate is incredibly valuable and will allow you to add value in every industry. Although you might not be ready to apply for jobs yet, start looking around at positions on LinkedIn and other job sites. Pay attention to the skills and requirements. If you see any gaps in your skills or experience, now is a great time to gain new skills! You can take online courses and even get another certificate if you think it would help your candidacy in your targeted field. Also, read profiles of professionals on LinkedIn and see what people are doing in various fields and see if their roles look appealing. I've got lots of great blog articles on my site that talk about all the steps of career exploring and job search: thecareercounter.com/career-resource-blog/

I see your point! However, my videos and resources are geared toward parents who have taken a career pause or have been working inside the home and are looking to get back into the workforce, whether it be part-time, getting a side hustle, or full-time. I can’t speak for all stay at home moms and parents, but personally, I consider myself primarily a stay at home mom, even though for the past ten years I have worked outside the home as well doing contract, freelance, and volunteer work, and most recently, starting my own company. I’ve had to update my resume many times!! ❤❤

Because men suck and retire with a lot of debt so now we have to pick up where he left off so your kids don't starve if I had known my fate at had this day here I would have never stayed ?

Just because someone is a stay a- stay-at-home parent for a while doesn’t mean they can always stay home. Spouses sometimes pass away, experience serious illness or injury, lose their own work or business, or sadly, leave. Sometimes parents want more to do with their time as their children grow older and are less dependent. Some couples only budget for one parent to stay home for a specified amount of time until children are old enough for school. Some moms want to help their spouse save up for retirement. Just because someone is able to stay home for a bit doesn’t mean they have unlimited funds. There are a multitude of reasons a stay-at home parent may be reentering the work force.
