I wouldn't recommend using this structure anymore. My teacher critiqued me on not focus on key concepts that much. The syllabus has changed since this video was made Edit : just make sure to add the key concept of intervention and you'll be algs

I have a question which I'm not able to find the answer to anywhere, can somebody please help me? What happens to the welfare loss when my indirect tax is more than the external cost of the negative consumption externality? I know it's more, but how? Please let me know if you have the answer.

You have correctly pointed out an issue that is with taxing to reduce the negative consumption of externality. Taxation is a great process as it internalizes the externality, but the disadvantage of this method is that it's difficult to calculate to correct tax amount to completley internalize the cost. Therefore in your case, the quantity demanded/supplied reduces more than it should, and the price rises more than it should. To answer the effect on welfare loss, you have to consider the fact that if the supply curve(with tax) shifts more than required (more than the external cost), then we have to consider the curve as a marginal social curve (MSC) and consider the inital supply curve as the marginal private cost (MPC curve). Therefore MSC>MPC, meaning there is a negative externality of production.

+Susan Fan The price is P2. You are correct. But it's not the revenue the firm is receiving. The firm is selling at p2 but is receiving p for its good. p2 - p is the tax and from the market price revenue ( (p2)*Q ) the govt takes (p2-p)*Q which is why he shades the box for tax.

I wouldn't say that using this is plagiarism, it acts as a guide to understand how to write the essay(at least for market failure). Stuff like drawing the same diagrams is inevitable but any IB student should know not to copy word for word what he says but rather take the tips and points to start writing and elaborating on their own. The idea of getting a 7 in 2 hours isn't really reiterated in the video, its probably just an eye catching title so people watch the video to help themselves.
