I listen to hundreds of other people talk about script writing and as a beginner get confused and turned off by most of them. As for you lady l could listen forever. You are simply the best. Thanks.

Wow... I've been suffering through the very slow moving Masterclass courses about writing and your 20 minute video just gave me so much more practical advice than any of those courses. I just bought Final Draft last week. I've had stories in my head for years, but I'm a career musician and this is an entirely new discipline, so I'm starting from square one. Writing and hopefully eventually acting in my own scripts will be my personal third act. Thank you so much for this video!

I picked up Syd Field: Screenplay out of pure curiosity into how people write movies. I've read it nearly 5 times and I also have Save the Cat by Snyder. Examined thoroughly, those books can indeed provide you a blueprint of sort into how to write a script. I'm self taught but I do have a MPA degree. I've written so many papers in my life, Capstone being nearly 60 pages, that I figured why not give screenwriting a shot. I"m currently on page 65 of my script. This video gave me so much confidence in myself. I've taken not a single scriptwriting class yet I know E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G she is speaking to in this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Anthony Cato I don't mean to burst your bubble, but let me give you a sound advice, If I were you, find a way to produce your movie first, get connected to people who can work with you producing your movie. I have already written two quality movies, and I have gotten nowhere, I am now writing my novel (book) because obviously I don't have the money to produce them, and believe me, it has nothing to do with talent, it's about being connected to the right people. If you are, then go ahead and write them, if you don't, get connected first, and find the money to produce them yourself.

This is exactly what I needed to take my book writing experience and translate it to spec scripts. You are awesome World Dancer!! I am watching a video a day and learning so much of what I need to learn. So many SP writing books I have looked at or videos have been about how shitty it is to be a spec writer and how it's not glamorous etc. or how to come up with a story, which is fine, but just NOT what I needed. You gave me what I and my writing partner needed to not look like noobs even though I have been in publishing for 10 years. Thank you!

I only paused the video towards the end to make sure I tell you how useful this video is. I spent the last few days looking through udemy courses and YT videos for content that actually helps me create a deliverable instead of giving me theoretical tips. I am dead serious about getting the first draft of my screenplay (that I based off of my novel) by August 26th. What I have learnt from the "experts" so far is how inarticulate most people are. Furthermore, most instructors don't provide a quantifiable outcome for the content. This is by far the most insightful and articulate video I have seen on writing a screenplay and I also love that you have provided examples of existing screenplays, which is great contigency planning. I love the optimistic tone and humor. Oh, did I mention that you are also stunningly gorgeous!

As someone frustrated watching films that have a cool premise, but then wind up following the same predictable boring routes, and as a novelist who thinks he could do it better... Screenwriting is a whole different animal. This is an excellent starting point for beginners like myself. It's also a good wake-up call to anyone, like me, not prepared to put in the time learn a new art form properly. perhaps, it's best if I focus on the stories and let a professional scriptwriter apply their craft. THANK YOU PAMELA! (My time-travel stories has my main character marveling at a squirrel's agility as it dances on the overhead wires. She fascinated because there are none in the future. Someday, you'll see the movie version and realize it was just for you.)

Genre and marketablility -- horror easiest to sell, then action. Drama tougher, but there are no rules, so write what you love and don't write to the market. I'm working on making them available -- will have to discuss that with the producer. Thanks for the awesome comment!

I've written and self-published three novels and am getting close to finishing my fourth. I always thought I only wanted to write books, but that has changed over the last 100,000 words or so. I see the scenes I write playing out so clearly on a screen with actors/actresses. Since those vivid images have imprinted themselves on the back of my eyelids, I've added a new exciting endeavor to my list of goals: turn my written stories into screenplays. I know it's a different animal and I have a lot to learn, but where the heck do I start? The answer... right here. This is exactly the high-level introduction I needed alongside the encouragement and resources to dive deeper. I'm mashing that subscribe button and looking forward to binge-watching everything you have, so I can turn this latest dream into a reality. Thanks so much, you rock!

Thank You so much for the information, and motivational video. I have 3 stories inside my head that are based on true events that happened in my life. I don't like to toot my own horn, but teachers, and professors told Me I have a natural gift when it comes to writing. I've never written a screenplay, but I have a burning passion to put these events on the big screen for everyone to enjoy them. When I was in college I didn't know about the different career options available for writers. In my mind, the movie industry was a small circle of people, and if you didn't know anyone then there was no chance to get in. This is the first video of yours that I luckily came across after watching countless videos about writing screenplays, and outlines, and I honestly learned more from Your video than all others combined, and I'm truly grateful for that. I have the story, characters, time line, dialog, setting all in my head, and now I'm trying to transfer it to paper for the entire world to enjoy. What video would you recommend to get this process going. Also what software do you recommend for getting started.

I’m only eleven years old and I love to write. I’m trying to start my own script and I want to make a teen drama (showing more mature scenes.) I’m a little more familiar with the format/layout, but I do need help on how the story will play out.

Here is an example of a "shooting script" from "Death Wish IV". A section of it. Caps represent camera angles.. CLOSE UP: Kersey realizes that he is trapped, and cannot get out of the limo. He gets out his gun and fires several shots at the back window to break it. BACKING SHOT: Kersey then escapes from the back window, and then jumps out of the car. WIDE-ANGLE SHOT: Kersey then runs away from the car. CLOSE-UP SHOT AT CAR: The car just stays there still for a few seconds, and then later, the car DETONATES, bursting into flames. Now if this was a spec script, it would go like this - 1. The protagonist finds that the doors cannot be opened. 2. He uses his firearm to shoot at the back windshield to shatter it. 3. Then he gets out through that windshield, steps on the ground and runs away from the car. 4. The car just remains there in still silence for a moment, and then, the car BLOWS UP into a fireball. See - "no camera angle" crap in the spec script. The descriptions in the spec tells enough without need for angles.

As random as it may sound, The intro of my feature has a squirrel pass by. I have it for a reason though, and no my squirrel doesn't go out biting people. The example just made me laugh

Very vivacious personality! That’s so helpful to have when trying to express matters of great importance to individuals who are unfamiliar with whatever the subject at hand is! In other words, you’re a good teacher, a very good one! I’m glad I discovered you! My script will now become better as a result! Thank you! 😊
