So I just now found this golden nugget. I'm in a song now and I have "an attack" on the second verse. I've had the chorus for really long time. It's coming together. You are helping putting pieces together. This is really helpful. Thank you so very much.

I just wrote you a realllllllyyy long comment and I was saying how it's a mini movie when I write because I actually see what's happening play out. YES, a 3 minute movie. Wow, I honestly feel so less mad. I almost always write on paper (except for the 96 notes on my phone I havent had that long. oops) And I'll go up to the first verse, I'll plan out the melody and illustrate that the way that makes sense to me. I match up not just the syllable count, but also the 'wave' of the melody. That way, the listener feels a sense of comfort in hearing something new being said in a way that's somehow familiar to them. And then whatever I have left to say that wouldn't fit, well, that gets stripped and becomes the bridge I'm that one who always has too much to say. As you'll know if you happen to read the comment I just posted And, again, I clicked on this out of interest in the title. I honestly wasn't aware that V2 was difficult for people. Is it a bit like sophomore slump? No, it wouldn't be that. But I DO KNOW what it must be like - hitting the midpoint of a novel (while writing it, not while reading) and not knowing the best way to start to get to the end. Because, while I don't typically use an outline for writing anything creative, including my books, I still see what's going on and I can envision the end but I don't always know which path in the forest is going to lead to lions (nice ones, so that's the correct path), tigers, or bears. You eventually figure out the 'safe' way, simply meaning what's going to resonate with your audience most. It's that way with songs, also, ofc. It's about what makes more sense. What gives comfort. What they can follow and enjoy. Even if it's not a happy topic. People absolutely find comfort in knowing they're not alone. Most of my songs are not happy. I'm writing from my heart - and a mind I'm almost not in control of. And now you might block me because I'm some crazy girl leaving you comments lol But, again, what you said was great. I do think one should break the rules every once in a while. I have a song with two verses together and only a 16 count in between. The chorus would split up the thought too much. The song doesn't only have 2 verses, though, so it works. BUT you're here to 'teach the rules,' in a sense, so I think your planner and the advice you give is perfect!

I’m sure these tips are great. IF you want to sound like virtually everyone else on top 40 commercial pop radio. He has some good suggestions, but use them as a guide, not as rules. Throw out any rule books 📚 I’ve been writing ✍️ lyrics off and on, since the late ‘80s/ early ‘90s. Other than reading about ABAB or ABBA etc forms, very early on. I doubt I’ve followed any rules, at least not that I’m aware of. He mentioned starting with a theme/ topic/ idea. I never have said, I’m going to write about topic X. I just start writing, and the topic(s) generally form themselves. Many famous song writers, also didn’t start with a topic. Last but not least, unless you care more about getting your song on commercial radio, than what you want to say in your song, don’t worry about the time.

I'm more concerned with the development of songs like A DAY IN THE LIFE, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, PAINT IT BLACK, LIKE A ROLLING STONE (no pun intended) , BIRTH OF AN ACCIDENTAL HIPSTER, WRITING WRONGS and/or some of the stuff of groups like VAMPIRE WEEKEND or FOSTER THE PEOPLE. These are generally songs that play with the rules, with concepts, language and structure. Do you cover these sorts of song-writing modes?
