To answer the title question, just basically by publishing in Jump. Since these days, it's pretty much eclipsed every other shounen magazine with only Kodansha barely being a competition. But anyways, the real reason Samurai 8 failed was because Kishi made the mistake of relying on his fame to have readers put up with the long infodump at the start of the story. I think there's a good reason the fantasy adventure style of shounen such as Naruto and One Piece are done so much, because there's so much you can do with it and there are still more to come for any author wanting to try writing that genre. It's the genre with the most freedom there is where you can have fun moments, sad moments, sweet moments, exciting moments and moments that are just beautiful. When it comes to premise, it's really hard to be original but it's nice if you find a way to. But when it comes to events in the story, there are still countless unique ideas yet to be explored. Something I hope to do myself.

Man I love to write a manga someday, it breaks me all this given oppurtunity about Shonen Jumps work. I wanna make something astounding too with a complex but unique story that can be called a category of its own but for now I can't draw well. I have some beginner skills given my Father's family bloodline draw and I have to quit my job to practice. I was so inspired by Ishayama masterful writings and I wanna do the same level of complexity yet entertaining as well.

Honestly it takes dedication,appealing art style (increase the following but not nessecesry) ,appealing characters (most important one) ,average or above plot a big following also helps. in this day something like webtoon is your best chance to get an anime adaptation Or you can make it yourself. Good will !
@actiii41704 жыл бұрын
Fillers only happen in anime, also to get a manga adaptation into an anime, you first gotta have it in with any comic publishers Japan. It doesn’t matter if you have good characters or story or not they’re going to take whatever trash you have anyways because when it comes to making anime it’s not about if it’s good or not what matters is the ANIMATION. How do you think Demon Slayer survived?

Oh look, the same suggestion i made in your previous video, just yesterday, that is to watch and read other genres outside of Shonen, so of course i agree with this video. First, let me say that, while we lived a period where Japan simply shut its gates off to the world, it wasn't like so in the past, and nowadays we're able to reach Japan again, so don't get discouraged, just do your thing and do it right. Second, experimentation is the key, as the video stated, do be afraid of doing your own thing or even stealing some ideas here and there, as long as you put head in your work, you can manage to make a good product. Third, i would like to add, don't limit yourself to successful works, look at past anime and manga too, if you can! A very blatant example of how this might help you is "Sword Art Online", which was one of the best hits in its time, yet it's a complete rip-off of another anime/manga/game franchise called ".hack", they simply remodeled the story to fit the times, while most of the lore is a copy, yet nobody complained, because their story was their own and their characters were different from the original franchise, that means you're not limited to copy characters only, you can mostly do a full round copy of something, but then you have to break it down and make it your own, like pulling out those original characters, putting your own and tailor a story around them, while changing the lore here and there, that might even help you understand what you're trying to make better. To sum it all up, confront with others, both males and females, shonen was never limited to boys only, that was a silly concept just to make classification easier during production; study various genres outside your comfort zone, i can't stress this enough, it's important to have more points of view on every kind of subject, especially if you're lacking in some area, like for example a good female character; experiment and go out of your genre while remaining in it, nowadays like the video has shown, this gives a huge impact on a manga, as readers grew tired of the same old story, wanting "a breath of fresh air", and that is given by experimenting with hybrids, basically trying to add other genres thematics or characteristics to your chosen genre. Now, most importantly, take a look at the past, i know many will say it's a drag since it's such a different media compared to nowadays, but the base for what we have today is there, it was actually more common for the big names in the past to experiment, which is how DB evolved in DBZ, letting kids who grew up with kid Goku, be able to follow a grown Goku as they also grew, or for people more interested in stability, how "Sailor Moon" kept showing us basically the same show over and over again, while still developing their characters, turning their "maho shoujo" manga into a slice-of-life, which was peculiar in its time, a major hit with girls but also boys who were tired after all the DB excitement, or even "YuYu Hakusho", A fusion between DB fights and slice-of-life from Sailor Moon, all of these great anime and manga of the past made a name for themselves by experimenting, going out of their boxes while still remaining inside it, so even if old and forgotten by the west, they're still an invaluable source of materials for new creators, and while old-fashioned and different from today's media, they still hold many of the things you need for a successful product. EDIT: Important note, there is a huge point to discuss in detail that will make for a successful product, not only shonen, but every kind of genre or media, we need a video about "how to write a successful Villain", can't stress enough how many shows just try to carbon copy a villain or leave it as a by-product of the story, but a true Villain, like for example "Frieza" from DB and "Orochi" for Naruto's first arcs, gave a guideline for the whole show and Frieza became one of the most iconic characters along Goku on DB, it's not a case they brought him back so many times. Dr.Stone gives a good example of what I'm saying, you're given a villain-like figure and the story turns around, forcing it to progress and evolve, in Death Note, while the protagonist is the actual Villain, we follow Light, so of course his "villain" or simply his enemy, is "L", which is a major turning point when he's introduced, bringing back down Light to ground level and forcing him to act smarter, becoming a real battle of wits thanks to a simple character introduction; the main opponent is just as important as the protagonist, in some cases, must not necessarily be like so, but having a good written opponent or a full fledged Villain, can bring your story a long way.
@namiboy7873 жыл бұрын
sad truth is when you grow up and you realize behaving like a shonen protagonist might let you follow a dream that isnt truly yours but like naruto, luffy and goku you just cannot give up no matter what. So Listen young people: its okay to give up and change your direction! If you chase a dream that isnt really yours you life might become toxic and depressing. Maybe You dont have to be an entrepeneur, lawyer or influencer to be happy. Maybe you would be happy living a simple life as a fisher in norway with your family or become a teacher like teacher onizuka :D. Also when all of your friends get married, have kids and full time jobs probably in different cities. ofc these relationships will suffer bc life forces you to change your focus to your wife and offspring. All thats left is a nostalgic reminder of good times.... To be honest, i loved shonen so much but now i think that they are also selling an illusion. Here in europe there was a literature epoch called "romance" and its main charasteric is "escape from reality", often pictured as the protagonist dreams.I think especially in the social and working-culture of Japan there is a big big need to escape reality. So its logic that shonen manga fills that gap inside your soul and people get hooked on the show.

I want to make a manga about a teenager and a group of other people his age murdering oni’s along with several villains that appear to be good in the first like 20 chapters or so. I want it to be like a normal setting but somewhat apocalyptic if you know what I mean. So yeah I also can’t come up with good names for the characters or the whole manga :p
@MonitorComics3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing! Your story sounds interesting! Sometimes less is more so keeping your setting "normal" might end up doing you a favor as time goes on! When it comes to character names, I usually google names with meanings. Comics and manga tend to have more wacky names so you don't need to stick to basic names you would find in real life! Calling a character something outlandish like "Rain, Red, or August" might sound cooler than "Joe, Bob, or Ryan" lol. As for the title of your manga, that's a bit harder, just sit on it and think about what matters most in your manga. Hope that helps! Best of luck!

I love Isekai as a genre, considering so much can be done with it, but instead of exploring unknowns people just regurgitate the same thing over and over. The only Isekai I finished was The Devil is a Part Timer, which kept me interested more with comedy than relying on Isekai itself. To this day it remains one of my favorites and I wish more isekais would be like it

So in your opinion can manga with battles not work anymore if they have a similar premise of use with abilities and fights ? I have been working on my own unique story for 11 years now but still has the elements of fights and battles thru use of abilities just done in my own spin. Does it not matter if I make it as uniquely I can with having familiarity with other mangas who have their own troupes ? Because I aim to make something unique and my own but I still admire the fights between characters in anime/ manga. And don’t want to get rid of that aspect, but my story does have its own uniqueness to counter some of what you talked about in this video. Just asking if battle manga can still work with its own unique twist the Author intends it to be.

KalschedStudios I wouldn’t really say these caught my interest, but they do exist. There’s a knockoff Saturday Am magazine called Plus Manga which accepts artists to be published in their magazine bi monthly. There’s also Noir Caesar which is a Manga magazine ran by an ex nba player so it’s highly budgeted. Aside from that there’s always the staples like image comics, dark horse, etc. and the other route is always webtoon or tapastic If you just wanna do your own thing and get your work out there. The first two magazines have age limits I believe as well. And I think most magazines require you to have some pages to show, some even require a chapter or two for their application process. Good luck!

Would inking your manga on paper be different from inking digitally?
@blurryink1154 жыл бұрын
Inking digitally is arguably faster and more versatile, you don’t have to worry about messing up linework like in traditional, ink bleeding or smudging, buying expensive inking tools, waiting for the ink to dry etc... in the end, there’s a small difference in inking digital and traditional if you’re talking about how it looks, you can usually tell if something is inked traditionally or digitally but in the end it doesn’t really matter

@MonitorComics4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to comment! It's never a bad thing to be inspired by another work, especially one as huge as One Piece. Nothing is completely original. Something I was taught was to take two existing works you already like (An X and Y variable) and then combining them with an Unknown Factor (Z Variable). Basically what this means is you pick and choose bits you love from others works and add them into your own, and then the unknown factor is something original you have to offer to the story. One Piece is amazing for its worldbuilding, so I feel like that's the aspect you've taken the most inspiration from. As long as your own little spin is enough to keep your story interesting, you should be fine! Best of luck!

I know Demon Slayer is ending but why was it so popular and able to get lots of love even though it followed the Shonen tropes ?
@MonitorComics4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! I actually had Demon Slayer in this video's script at first, but removed it because honestly, you're RIGHT! I might make a separate video going over that entirely, but in short, I think Demon Slayer is one of those works that REALLY benefitted from the anime adaptation. I agree with you that Demon Slayer is a textbook shounen while watching it I didn't really see anything I haven't seen before. After researching for this video I saw that Demon Slayer's manga sales were pretty consistent in the mid-range. I think the manga has always been good, but not great, and decent, but not bad. Demon Slayer doesn't have any real faults, but it also doesn't have anything too crazy either. After watching the anime, it was clear how much money and effort UFOTABLE put into animated it. The battle scenes were beautifully done and the voice acting/OST was actually really good. The anime managed to carry itself so far, leading the manga sales to increase alongside it. Whenever I hear people in real life praise demon slayer, they're usually the casual anime fans or weebs who don't watch THAT much. I think this casual weeb audience had enough influence to make Demon Slayer anime of the year, an award I honestly don't think it deserved. All in all, Demon slayer got lucky with their anime adaptation and just happened to be the right thing at the right time that casual fans and non-casual fans could rave about. I ended up removing demon slayer from this video because I feel like its success cannot really be replicated.

wat do you do on the side while being a manga artist any advice?
@MonitorComics3 жыл бұрын
I would say always have a backup plan that you are passionate about. Comics and art, in general, are difficult fields to break into. There are definitely careers out there for artists so I don't want you to just give up on your art dreams LOL. Currently, I am a full-time college student getting a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design & Fine Art. I currently work part-time at a place on campus. I do my manga work as a side hustle and am slowly expanding it into a business. I currently make side money doing art commissions and through youtube. Now that I am monetized, I get paid every month from youtube. I also have some sponsored videos coming up that pay. This youtube thing is both a way for me to spread what I know, get my name out there more, and make some extra money on the side. After college, I plan to work at a graphic design firm since that is something I am also passionate about. If my freelance artist business takes off though I would happily choose that path. My advice for you would be to just follow your heart. Don't force yourself to be a doctor or a lawyer or any job solely for money. Compromise and find something you wouldn't HATE doing and that can provide you with a stable income! Hope that helps! Best of luck!

Would you say Apple Black by whyt manga is a unique shonen manga or does it have some tropes ???
@MonitorComics4 жыл бұрын
No work is 100% unique. Apple Black definitely takes inspiration from Bleach's and other series. Some of the characters also fall into some common tropes as well, with Ryuzaki being the obnoxious hot head (similar to bakugou or naruto) and Osamu being the coolheaded strong type (like todoroki, sasuke, or Captain Hitsugaya). The idea of a special arm isn't that unique either with characters like Edward Elric and Chad from bleach having something similar. The premise of a chosen one isolated from the world is similar to Avatar the Last Airbender as well. Regardless of all of that though, it's still a good read because whyt is a genius artist. I'd say it's unique in its execution, not so much its premise.

Editing takes a thousand years; Having something constant like a speed paint playing in the background saves me a lot of time during sections where I don't really need to show visuals or examples. Thanks again for taking the time to leave some feedback!

@@MonitorComics nah. i got no problem with your work. just that painting a lil bit unrelatable with the topic that you brought. my mind was expecting shonen manga and every time that painting showed up its distract my focus and my mind keep remind me (this not shonen this not shonen) something like that. im sorry no offence at all. might its just me cause im too focus and easily distracted..

@@EmonicVampire Nah all good I see what you're saying. That's actually a really fair point. I'll keep that in mind next time when deciding which speedpaint to have played during each video. Thanks again for the feedback I really appreciate it!

As a reader of The God of High School, the anime sucked. The pacing was so fast. That arc should have taken well over 20, maybe 30 episodes. Tower of God was good but I don't know if it was 1 to 1. I never read it.

I wish it didnt take you 3 mins and 38 seconds to get into it. I feel that type of point is best at the end of the video.

If I make a manga I'm making every character equal because i'm tired of female characters just being useless or doing anything when a villain attacks.

why didnt chu talk about kimetsu no yaibai
@MonitorComics3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to comment! I purposely left Kimetsu no Yaiba out because I feel like it doesn't "do anything crazy." In my opinion, it's a very textbook shonen series from the first season I saw. Nothing about it stood out to me really, but it did all of the basics really well. I feel like Kimetsu No Yaiba's success formula is a bit weird because I don't think it would work for most people. It's pretty much set up like classic shonen manga

It literally is LOL. They're the big 3 of the mid-2000s. If you google Big 3 shonen it'll tell you that lol
@YouthfulCrusader3 жыл бұрын
@@MonitorComics nah broski, Dragonball Z, Naruto and One piece will ALWAYS be the big three, not hating on bleach, but if you really want to go realistic, bleach is steadily declining probably more than one piece is. Not only did one piece survive longer, but bleach´s posterboy Ichigo is becoming smaller and smaller on all the shonen magazine covers because his anime is becoming more and more irrelevant, but you know who DOES appear clear and in affect on all the shonen mag covers? Goku, Luffy, and Naruto lol
