one of my favorite moments with him is when he finally opens the scroll and sees his reflection and says "Its empty!" in utter disbelief. Which tugged at my heart strings so much, because his sense of worth isn't self generated, as Po is, but generated by others approval. I felt it deep in my heart, because as you said, he's relatable. You try so hard, work endlessly, to fulfill the expectations and dreams of someone you care deeply for...only to come to a realization that they either dont have your back, or there is someone always better. So in the end it feels like you wasted all that time and effort, and dont see the value in yourself or even your skills.

One of my favorite quotes is during Shifu and Tai Lung's fight. "Who filled my head with dreams!? Who pushed me to train until my bones cracked!? He never thought he would actually hear those words leave shifus mouth and he IS moved by it but he's gone way too far and it's just too late in his eyes to turn around. And so he doubles down and convinces himself he's right and that making shifu see things the way he did wasn't actually what he wanted anymore, it didn't really matter. I've always said this movie is about shifu and Tai lung even tho po is the protagonist. Like the og karate kid.

The best part is that when Po gets ready to leave, Shifu gets to see he's made the same mistake again (this time, contextualized in a way that makes it exceedingly easy to see and hard to ignore) - he was too busy trying to push people to be what he wanted them to be (in Po's case: gone) instead of helping them to be the best people they could (something that could actually create a great dragon warrior)

I think there should be more focus on the fact that it is Shifu's fault for making Tai Lung that way. The appeal of Tai Lung is that... We, as an audience, understand that Tai Lung did not reach this point for no reason and we sympathise with his pain and the weight of expectation - something which every single one of us experiences. Tai Lung did not want to be the dragon warrior. Tai Lung wanted for Shifu to love him. That made all the difference.

A balance of skill and peace of mind which Tai-lung lacked compared to po Shifu projected his own idealization of what a dragon warrior should be in Tai lung. And as a result Tailung became a colateral damage of Shifu flawed expectations and teaching methods. I love how kids movies used to be so thoughtful back in the days

Not really. Yes we all feel for Tai Lung, but few of us become Tai Lung. Believe it or not, you are expected to nit go on a rampage and destroy cities, if you try for something, and don't get it. No it is not Shifu's fault that Tai Lung went mad. As Shifu said, he was just sorry that he didn't see what Tai Lung was becoming / what Shifu was turning him in to. Why are you not being honest about what Tai Lung wanted? You say he just wanted Shifu's love. He had it. Shifu said he was always proud, and he was sorry. Then Tai Lung said, "I don't want your apology, I want my scroll." Yes, Tai Lung just wanted the power, which is why he was rejected in the first place, and why he became villainous.

I don't know that the Furious Five were necessarily clean- Tigress let her desire to prove Ooguay's choice of Po wrong lead her to the reckless decision to challenge Tai Lung herself. Now, that wasn't driven from a place of obsession like with Tai Lung, but I do think her ego was very much bruised by Po's selection- I think in her mind she was the worthy one. Thankfully she ended up respecting the decision, since her higher priority was that the Dragon Warrior was properly selected and could be the hero that defends the Valley. Which itself is a good foil to Tai Lung's own reaction to his ambitions being blocked by Ooguay's decisions. Tigress didn't do anything underhanded. She didn't sabotage Po, while she wasn't particularly nice to him at first, she had something Tai Lung didn't properly have: Respect for the process.

What they did with Tai'Lung in last movie was so disappointing. When we all know that being send to the realm of dead in the way he was. Is not a permanent death. He could have returned. He could have had his redemption arc. We could have the franchise turn and focus on his redemption and growth. But I agree. That would be extremely risky. But if done right! It would be the best story in entirety of FICTION.

I wonder if the writers of Ninjago got inspiration for Morro’s backstory story form Tai-Lung as both have similarities: -Both were taken in by their master. - Both were trained by their master/adopted guardian. - They were led to believe that they would become “the chosen one” which led to them being overconfident and arrogant. - Both were livid when they weren’t granted that position of power and sought vengeance against their former master. While it could’ve been a big coincidence and I’m not sure if other villains had this similar backstory but both are great antagonists that have a good with to their character.

I remember the Scene when he got the blue Fire on his paws. (which could be Hotter then normal Fire!!) Using it to fight harder. The Anger and Sadness in him yelling "Everything I did, I did to make You proud! Tell me how proud you are Shifu!" and immediately after a few more blows the scene goes from pure anger and energy to sadness and stillness. The Hotter blue fire flicked off his hands as he just stares as Shifu on the Floor. I remember that because Shifu was basically on the defense the entire time. Showing how hesitant Shifu was to hurt (What i think) was still his son. And Tai Lung paused to listen to him. HE PAUSED!! he wanted Validation even Then!!

Imprisoned in old western Mongolia. As a Mongolian, one of the most terrifying & stressing situations that you can be in is having your car break down in the middle of the baron plains far from the main road without cell. I cant imagine having to triverse that shit without vehicle nor modern nomads roaming the area 😭

everyone attributes caring and affection for their relationship but what about the fact on how much he physically pushed him. it could've been a blinded love thinking it was for his own good but turned out it could've been a form of emotional abuse through physical abuse

For me when i was a kid i just liked him alot compared to the others characters because he earned his strength and worth, he wasn't like po for example, that had the "practically infinite potential that's not yet opened" trope. everything he did was earned, he wasn't born special-just a simple orphan, and i thought that was more badass than having the cliché over powered characters, hero or villain, i always thought it was lazy writing that power creeped characters

Po also sought validation. He told Shifu that it was better that he yelled at him and said he smells then living another day being himself. Po sought self validation while Tai Lung sought validation from Shifu. The only reason why Tai Lung went off the rails was because he was told he was evil. For no reason. Shifu, the soul person that Tai Lung longed to be proud of him and love him, never stood by him when told “yeah your son is gonna be an evil asshole.” That’s crushing to have someone you love think that after all you’ve accomplished meant nothing anymore because some old turtle comes along and says you’re evil so you must be evil So Tai Long seeks validation to proove his worth. Po sought validation for himself so he feels like he’s worth something

I always found it weird that many people view Tai Lung as a good guy turned bad, or that what was told to him from Oogway was messed up. While I agree that Shifu shouldn't have kept promising him something that was mever truly certain, Shifu really wanted him to be. It is understandable on both sides, but the only person to blame for his downfall is Tai Lung himself. I think what really proves the fact that Oogway was not wrong, while Tai Lung is being denied, is that he's not just sad. He's not just disappointed. He commits village genocide, to multiple villages, and sets his heart for only revenge for decades. The news he got was not the turning point, as at some point, with or without the news, something else would have made him snap to the point where he would turn to horrendous acts. Tai Lung's lack of self control and mental discipline was his downfall, it wasn't the false promises, it was that he oniy viewed himself one way, and if that wasn't not the way life was actually going to go, then he felt justified to do anything else to achieve it.

7:44 there is a theory that master oogway Denyed tai lung as a test and if tai lung accepted his faith as not the dragon warrior oogway will tell him it was a test and he succeeded But tai lung anger made him failed his test and for a reason imagine spending all your life training for something it just was not ment for you

Just imagine if instead of being tormented for 20 years in prison, Shifu and Oogway actually talked to him, explained where he went wrong and helped him become better. Seriously, no one even told Tai Lung WHY is he not the Dragon Warrior.
@zaxbitterzen217815 күн бұрын
Both shifu and Oogway failed him. Shifu taught him that failure is unacceptable he should always be strong. Oogway failed in guiding him spiritually. He saw the darkness that Shifu was inspiring in him and did NOTHING. Then instead of taking him aside and counseling him after his outrage they toss him in prison. My man deserves every ounce of anger in his veins.

It is fun but sad to think, that Kung Fu Panda would have never happened if Shifu had simply said "Even if Oogway doesn't think you are right for being the Dragon Warrior, I am proud of everything you have done" and took him for a picnic
@BloodDragon-rp4xc14 күн бұрын
ima just say it, if Shifu really tried to stand up for him and reassure him that he was still great and mattered, then Tai-Lung wouldve ever turned evil. I think hed be mad, furious, ungodly hurt, but i dont think hed be blindingly enraged. in fact i think hed have a good chance to grow from it and mightve even become worthy of the dragon warrior title after all. just my perspective i guess

Tai Lung didn’t do anything wrong and quit literally everything could’ve been avoided if shifu didn’t train him so harshly without proper love and if Oogway just didn’t villainize him as an excuse to not give him the scroll. Tai Lung was never truly bloodthirsty and only did what he did because he wanted shifu to be proud of him. Tai lung was abandoned and saved him shifu. Raised by him and oogyway would technically be his adopted grandfather. Of course he’d be upset when he was denied the scroll as he was always told it was his destiny to be the dragon warrior and that there are no mistakes. Oogyway specifically made this iron shell for a tai lung that would slowly put him through pain for two decades. Wanting shifu’s approval drove him to train until his bones were broken. Oogyway had no real way to reject him because he hadn’t done anything. Oogyway also sat back and let him attack the village when he could’ve easily put him to sleep. He forced shifu to fight tai lung and make the choice to kill his own son only for a scroll that was blank. The difference between Ping and Shifu is because shifus influenced caused tai lung to train and focus on fulfilling his father’s dream and wanting to be validated by his father.
