We're all pretty familiar with what a screenplay for film and TV looks like. But there's another script format that is ideal for other subsections of the moving image medium, such as music videos, explainer videos, corporate videos, and more. These formats require a different kind of written blueprint. Today, we'll take a look at that blueprint, otherwise known as the AV script.
AV SCRIPT FORMATTING
So how do you create an AV script? You'll want to follow these general steps:
Establish Goals and Structure: Determine the format of your video-animated, live action, or a slideshow. Once you've decided on the type, start structuring your AV script with appropriate sections.
Write Voiceover: In the left-hand column, input what you want to be heard. This can include voiceover, audio cues, or dialogue-any audio elements necessary for your script.
Plan Your Shots: Focus on the visual elements in the right-hand column. Describe the visuals and how they will be shot, detailing actions, camera angles, and movements.
Time Your Script: AV scripts are great for time-sensitive projects like corporate videos because they allow you to map out durations easily. To gauge timing, record yourself reading the audio parts.
Get Feedback: Once your script is complete, share it with your collaborators for feedback. It's crucial to receive notes now rather than after everything has been recorded.
