Yeah, recorders are named about two voices lower than their actual range (because they were commonly used to double voices an octave above). So an alto recorder is really in sopranino range, tenor recorder is in soprano range (similar range to the flute -- soprano flute, that is), etc.

Are you both sure it's the best solution to "think" notes as a concert flute or to think the real notes ? cause in first solution you need to transpose each sheets...

For alto flute you definitely need to transpose. On a concert score of course you wouldn't, but in every alto flute part you should have transposed parts, without exception. Most flute players aren't accustomed to reading lower notes than middle C (alto flute goes all the way to G/F#), and sight transposing a fourth down isn't that easy. There are few reasons to expect a flute player to be able to do that without preparation.

Thanks! Can you play quarter tones on alto flute? Normally it is asked in a flute with open holes, as suggested by Robert Dick... I have a score that can fit alto flute except for the quarter tones (?).

You can but you'll Need alternative fingerings, so for that definitely ask and work with a flutist and work out the fingerings together, or have a look at some online finger Charts for quarter tones on flute, because the fingerings should be roughly the same.

Never missed a G# in my life because my pinky was too far away but I’ll keep that in mind ;) There’s a weird amount of flute-world tradition that’s based on how things look (like the tarnish taboo). I’m more into function over form when it comes it music.
