Excellent Kaval Sviri melody at the end!

Attention to the fingering. The correct one is the piper's grip; if you don't use it, you will miss the most part of the technics and the playability.

now that is interesting! Does it work as a Helmholtz resonator, and You are changing the hole size with your embochure, instead of vessel volume, to change pitch?

Curious why you say the highest you should write for picc is the Bb, and then in the next sentence you say it’s C. What is it about Bnat and C that I should be avoiding?
@JoshPlotner19 күн бұрын
Bnat and C are sort of a different register. They're harder to produce, and can be significantly more shrill than the rest of the 3rd octave. It's best to avoid those unless you're really confident that that's what you want.
@thegoodgeneral19 күн бұрын
@@JoshPlotner I see, thanks for your answer. What about at the end of a 2 octave scale with all of the woodwinds in their respective high registers during a f-ff orchestral passage? I think that's the only time I've written those high Bnats and Cs.
@JoshPlotner19 күн бұрын
Yeah that kind of gesture is fine. Depending on the player it might not end super strong, but a pro could certainly blast it out. But probably not a good place for nuance 😅
@thegoodgeneral19 күн бұрын
@@JoshPlotner great, thanks for your insight. I’m also greatly impressed by your doubling variety! I think I like your oboe tone the best.

I'd love to hear this in your normal, lovely dry recording style without all washed out verb to better hear the nuance of your beautiful playing

I really wish that I could hear more of these songs. There are barely any good quality videos of these instruments. And I want to be able to hear the individual instrument. I'm probably not making any sense here.
